Cloaks of Mulmaster: The Future?

Hi,

Lately Ive been having a few players with Arcane characters deciding to join the Cloaks.  I like it, it adds to the ambience of some of my games as people get all high and mighty with non members and their interactions.

However one of these relatively new players asked me:  What happens after we leave Mulmaster? (they are trying to get full bottle on the players guide and thus know next season will be set somewhere that Isnt Mulmaster).

My only thoughts on this were that it was still possible to purchase scrolls but that character could no longer 'increase' their rank in the Guild until they player more DDEX2-* scenarios.

Am I correct in this view?

All of the Cloak Benefits only apply in Mulmaster. As such, said characters cannot gain a scroll at the start of each adventure, unless that adventure occurs in Mulmaster. Lifestyle reductions likewise only apply in Mulmaster (as the costs are offset locally). Travelling abroad, and the Cloak PC would need to pay full price for their lifestyle. They would not however, be expected to maintain a wealthy+ lifestyle outside Mulmaster, as the Cloak's juristiction ends at its walls....

Characters only increase their Cloak rank for playing DDEX2- adventures. Other adventures do not increase Cloak Rank.

My apologies : I was getting hung up on this:

The character may obtain one spell scroll of a 1st level spell on the character’s spell list found in the Player’s Handbook, to be used during the adventure. This choice may be made before the start of the adventure or if the player desires, during the adventure if it takes place in the city of Mulmaster. If the scroll is not used during the ad-venture, it must be returned. If the character does not use the spell during the adventure and is personally capable of copying it into a spellbook, the character may do so. The character may not give this scroll to another character.

I inferred incorrectly that the player could still get a scroll outside of Mulmaster just obviously not during the adventure.

Thanks for the correction.

This does however mean that this record sheet after the player has played all the DDEX2-* scenarions they can with that character no longer means as much?

There is a possibility that previous cities will be revisited in the future (Phlan for example needs to be rescued from its green tyrant). Who knows if future modules will let the character regain the benefits of Cloak membership, but yes - once you have completed all the Mulmaster Adventures, the document doesn't mean as much.

Some DMs may allow you to gain the benefits outside Mulmaster, but membership (and all its associated perks) is meant to be a Mulmaster exclusive benefit.

It is likely that somewhere down the road we might go back to Mulmaster, or have an adventure that is a valid as a "Cloaks" adventure. Just not in season 3.

The admins and campaign staff do not get advance information regarding the hardcover. We get the encounters document a week or so before start of season (or 1 day before in the case of season 2)

they already announce that we'll go down in the underdark with Drizzt, they must know if this is part of the hard cover adventure or it's part of the DDEX modules.

I am fairly certain that DDEP2 is considered a Mulmaster Adventure (I cannot imagine why It wouldn't be) - and so yes, it should increase your Cloak Rank. I didn't consider the Epic when making my prior statement, as that is a singular exception to the rule (and I forgot about it at the time)

DDEP2 definately occurs in Mulmaster and should be recorded on your Cloak tracking sheet as such.
