The first three D&D Expeditions adventures are now uploaded and available to download for any DMs who have access.

I'm gonna start reading them now and post some thoughts later. At a quick glance, adventures 1 and 3 are 32 pages and adv. 2 is 26 pages. I'll have to cross reference a few monsters but looks like we have a few additional ones.

The layout of the pdf is similar to the printer friendly versions of the basic pdf. There is some nice DMing advice and tables at the beginning to help the DM gauge difficulty and balance for a party. Also, the sessions have suggestions for how to split up treasure as well as faction and AL related things. Interestingly, the first adventure refers to each session as a "Mission" while the other two adventures refer to each session as a "Part". Between the three adventures there are 13 Parts total.

*** Spoiler Alert ***

It looks like the only new monster is the Lemure, one of my favorites to use with lowbie PCs. We've also now got a new template for Wearer of Purple (Cult Fanatic) which is a named NPC, and not unlike at least one of the NPCs from Hoard. The rest are named NPCs.

A FLGS that runs Expeditions in addition to Encounters can gain access. A convention organizer can gain access. Game days for public gaming clubs can gain access. The details and customer support link are in the Adventurer's League website, within a web page titled Get Involved. I'll try to post a link.

I have got some questions for running DDEX1-1:

a) Spellcasting services: Cure wounds and Prayer of Healing add the spellcasting ability modifier to the regained hit points. Is anywhere epxlained, what will be the value if it is done by services or should I take +0 ?

b) What do a potion of climbing, a spell scroll "protection from evil and good" and a spell scroll "comprehend languages". All these things should be explained in the DMG (not released yet) and in the basic rules. But in the actual basic rules I can't find them.

Can anybody help me ?

Regarding a): the level is clear to me, but I thought, the spellcasting ability modifier is given by wisdom (if I assume the healer will be a cleric). And the value of the wisdom modifier can vary, depending on the value of the healer. For a char this value is clear, but what happens if the spell is done by undefined third parties? Then I need some kind of default value. Or do I misunderstand the definition of the spellcasting ability modifier ?

Good point. It's not defined in either the DM Basic Rules, Player basic rules, or the Adventurer's league guide and will need clarification. I'd probably just go off of spell scroll levels and assume that you have a +3 spell casting bonus. (The Attack bonus of a 1st level scroll is +5; assume +2 proficiency and you get a +3 bonus). You should be fine adjudicating it that way at the table until the League publishes something official.

Are there permanent magic items in any of the modules and if so, how do we get the certificates?

I believe that some certificates are in the Encounters DM packs for distribution to players through that format. Our local convention has not gotten any certs on the other hand. THis may be something they roll out over time but for now they are few and far between.

Skerrit: just to make sure this is clear: Can Expedition modules (the DDEX1-1, 1-2, and 1-3 modules are all Expeditions) be run in a home environment?  Or do they require being run at a game store or convention?  Are there any exceptions to that rule, if it is as I think it is and not allowed in home environment?

Expeditions adevntures are for public play (stores, cons, gamedays, coffee shops, libraries, schools, street corners, etc...). The published adventures such as the Starter Set and Horde of the Dragon Queen are allowed for home play. The only exception to this rule that comes to mind is during playtesting we don't require the as of yet released adventure to be run at a con (as the point is to make them con ready).
