So either they are BOTH legal, or NEITHER are, because currently there is no document that is just "basic rules".
#4 Skerrit Sep 01, 2014 9:45:24	We don't use the "optional/variant" rules from the DMG (except the playing on a grid rules). That doesn't mean that core game rules in the DMG (or reprinted in the Basic rules) are not used.
