| #1TyranthraxusApr 06, 2015 18:06:07 | Hi,
Recently as a surprise to my Players I ran this. Whilst I read it 3 times over before I started for some reason I did NOT pick up on the fact that there is no scaling for most of the encounters in the game.
To put it in Context, I had a 4 player table of level 5 characters (and thus it was a v weak table).
Only the first 'fight' against the Boar Warriors has scaling.
For some reason none of the other encounters do. I had a panic attack in the next fight with the Chimera and Lions when I realised this fact, I quickly calmed down and removed a lion and lowered the HP of the Chimera to hopefully lower the challenge rating.
The Yeti fight was also tough. I again removed a Yeti.
Later I rolled poorly for the adventurers and had the medusa on low hp and the nightmare on full hp. I was actually surprised how well the the party went. We had a character die during the Flesh Golem fight (I removed one)
I would actualy advise against running this unless you have an 'average' strength party beforehand as on the fly scaling is pretty tough. Theme wise its a lot of fun.
Gladiator style pit fight (I got to use my old Dark sun style snatch and throw into the Arena on the group!)
Fight in the blizzardish peaks vs Yetis, Galeb Duhrs vs Gargoyles. All very cool imagery.
If there is interest below Ive posted how I modified Mayhem for V Weak (using the monsters only found in the adventure)
Boar Warrior Fight: Remove one Boar Warrior
Veterans (Guards) I didnt do anything with these. I wanted to play on the fact that fighting their way out would be suicide so I left the levels as is.
Yetis Fight: Remove One Yeti. (modification: I actually probably should have kept both Yetis just reduced their HPs. Try it for your group)
Medusa + Nightmare: Reduce Medusa HP to 77. I kept the Nightmare at the same HP. I probably should have reduce it slightly but to be honest as a Combatant it wasnt anywhere near the same level as the Medusa
Bulletes Fight: Remove a Bullete
Gargoyles: Remove 2 Gargoyles (2 left)
Flesh Golems: Remove 1 Flesh Golem .
This scenario played really long for me even after my modifications to bring it into playable for a V weak table. What Ive done before of course isnt official and we are allowed to somewhat tailor the scenario for such disparity in levels, but I personally think it never should have been uploaded for play without the rest of the scaling boxes there.

Presuming the adventure is legal for any Tier 2 characters, the lack of upscaling options will be fairly significant as time passes -- because without the ability to add additional monsters for extra combat XP, the adventure will be sub-par for XP for higher level parties, which will dissuade them from playing it.
