I apologize if this was answered somewhere, I could not find a thread about it.
I am a player in the D&D 5.0 Encounter group at my local shop and we are about to start the 3rd Episode and I will be stepping in to DM this episode as the regular DM will be going on a cruise and will miss a few sessions.
When he is here, he plans to run his Warlock, so it doesn't upset the flow of things (or my groove)
(Yes, I am set up as an Encoutners DM, I am the back-up if we ever got enough players to do 2 groups at the store)
My question is; can I run my character that I was running in the previous episodes as an NPC in the group?
The reason I am thinking to do this is that my character is the party healer (Level 3 Dwarf Cleric) and without him, there will be a lack of heals to go around.
and the follow up is, if he is run, does he get normal xp as a player or just the 300xp that I would get as the DM running the Episode?

I've never seen someone who did that get actual XP or rewards from the module, since he's an NPC at that time, not a PC -- you'd still get whatever XP/etc. is yours due to being a DM at a table however, regardless of you playing an NPC or not. Not sure what the 'official' word on this is, but the act of having a DM run an NPC alongside an obviously-underpowered table is certainly not unheard of.
DMs like to play too, but they often don’t get as many opportunities as non-DMs do. Therefore, all DMs can earn experience points and downtime for a character after running games. The DM notes the reward on the next session’s entry on his or her adventure logsheet along with the date the game was run.
DM's who usually play get down time as a reward and no xp from what I've read.
Your DMPC will not earn XP, downtime or treasure when played as an NPC. With that being said, if you complete an episode, you earn 10 Downtime and 300 DMXP (600 in Episode5+) which can be applied to your character. Your character gains no other story awards however.
