Hi,

Ive got a group that is just hitting 5th level (some have hit it with exp others are downtiming it).

I know logically I should run Mayhem first (but its not a Scenario Im fond off because of both its length and lack of tiering inside the scenario), So Ive decided to run Sword of Sefaril.

I have a few questions however.

A) For anyone who has  run the gathering Allies section, did you lower DCs for Persuasion/ Deception if people were bribed? How much ? Did Intimidation get tried?  How easy is it to piss off the Beholders for them to attack the party?

B) Of the 8 Allies. Assuming the party uses the Deep Gnome Tunnel and bypasses the procession. However in the process  they have only got the Temple of Tymora and theDeep Gnomes as Allies:

A later statement :

Otherwise, for every group less than three that remains, the pair of priests joins the fray and attacks the characters.

Does this mean 2 Priests join the fray mor more or less? That whole sentence does not read well.

Thanks

A. Either reduce the DC by 5 or give them advantage. As for the Beholders, I ran them like the Three Stooges trying to pretend to be menacing. The test I gave the party was to entertain the Beholders using the three items that were conjured in front of them: a clay pot, a glass bowl, and a watermelon. I did that particularly because one of the party members has the warcry of "I swing my Warhammer!!!" The Beholders would have only attacked if the party failed the test and refused to leave.

B. Not sure about this one, as my party had more allies than that when I ran it. Everyone who would have normally countered something in the procession instead played defense to prevent interference, since the Deep Gnomes escorted a veritable batallion of troops through the tunnels.

I've played it twice, but have not read/DM'd it yet.  Both times I played it felt like the DM pretty much hand-waved the 'getting allies' parts... not sure what it should have entailed, but it didn't seem much of a challenge.

Though the Beholder part was fun.
