| #1PauperJun 15, 2015 12:49:35 | The new issue of Dragon+ has an Adventurers League update component, which includes the following:
- Confirmation that Season 3 - Rage of Demons - will be 'previewed' at GenCon, including a campaign Epic.
- Confirmation that the recently-released PH errata is AL-official.
- A link to download 'Monster Slayers: Champions of the Elements', a kid-friendly D&D "play experience". It's not clear what relationship this actually has to AL other than being mentioned in the AL section of Dragon+.
- A link to 16 pre-generated characters that are AL-legal.
This thread is open to comment on the Dragon+ AL article in general, and especially to note any issues, errors, or typos with the AL pre-gen characters.

| #3RCanineJun 15, 2015 19:25:26 | In before "Dragon+ is not an AL rules source." |
| #4KalaniJun 15, 2015 19:30:26 | Are the pregens in Dragon+ the same ones that are on the wizards website? If so, those pregens have been looked at and don't actually meet the criteria for AL characters (they have rolled gear for one), that and they make use of the PHB (which none of the AL pregens do). |

| #6KalaniJun 15, 2015 19:47:31 | yeah, those character sheets are not 100% legal for AL (they don't meet the character creation requirements in terms of starting gear), but the consensus is to not sweat them if a player shows up with one of those pregens, for the same reason as if a character shows up with a season 1 pregen.
|
| #7PauperJun 16, 2015 8:03:46 | Somebody should send this up the line to WotC, then, because the sheets are linked from an Adventurers League article, written by Chris Tulach (the WotC lead for Organized Play) that says the following:
"We've had a number of requests for more pre-generated characters of all the Player's Handbook classes, and we've delivered! Download (this word is linked to the pre-gen page) a bevy of 1st-level characters that are playable right away. They're perfect for use in your first session of D&D Adventurers League play."
This is not text that suggests that the pre-gens aren't AL-legal.

Edit: missed the 'don't sweat it' part -- that works, but does put some work into the hands of local DMs. |
| #8KalaniJun 16, 2015 8:34:56 | Well if you look at them - they don't use starting packages for one thing. They are PHB legal, just not AL legal. I haven't looked at their stats yet to see if they use PB or rolled stats.
Either way, they were briefly discussed over on the LC FB group and the "issue" of their legality was hand waived as we have no control over what Wizards creates and says is AL legal
Caveat: The Drow Rogue is an illegal character. While he can hold a Rapier + Shortsword, he cannot gain the benefits of Two Weapon Fighting with those weapons (as Rapiers do not have the Light property). |
| #9SkerritJun 16, 2015 9:42:11 | We encourage players to use the actual DnDAL pregens that we created for Season Two: http://dndadventurersleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Elemental-Evil-Pregens.pdf

| #10KalaniJun 16, 2015 9:43:56 | I concur.... I will not be providing any of these pregens to the players at my store (but would allow them if someone showed up with one). There are 10 official AL pregens between the two seasons (and I suspect another 5 next season). |

I see no reason to provide the PHB pregens when there are enough already. That and the fact that the S2 pregens were designed by the campaign staff themselves makes me want to support them even more. |

| #13imaginaryfriendJun 17, 2015 7:05:55 | Lets just say that the relationship between WotC and AL is part of why "its complicated" exists ![]() |
| #14PauperJun 17, 2015 8:58:56 | I will say I'm a lot happer with WotC's stewardship of AL than I was with their handling of LFR -- for example, the Sundering removed warforged and mul from the Realms, and they haven't been let back in yet (and likely won't be, by all indications).
No group is perfect, but this group is (IMO) doing a heckuva job.

| #17KalaniJun 17, 2015 9:32:21 | Correction: Those weren't Admin-created pregens - they were LC-created pregens. The campaign staff held a contest for the LCs to create Season 2 pregens using only the ALPG, Basic Rules, and EE Player's Companion.
I had two contest entries - A Deep Gnome Fighter (Rapier + Shield, Duelling style), and a Human Wizard (Fop; Noble background), who had retained the services of 2 untrained hirelings for a week (for the purposes of carrying his luggage). |
| #18PauperJun 17, 2015 9:41:47 | Sorry, Kalani - I tend to use 'admin' and 'staff' fairly loosely to mean 'anyone in the official AL structure': LCs and RCs would count, in that sense.
But you're right -- if you take 'admin' to mean just the Big Six volunteers listed at dndadventurersleague.org, and the paid staff at WotC above them, then the pre-gens were not admin-created.

| #24KalaniJun 18, 2015 11:03:35 | Part of the reason AL succeeds so well is because of the dedication given to the program by the campaign staff. When the program was first organized, it was billed as a minor part time thing - where even RCs were only expected to put in about 2hrs a week (not counting game time).
Most RCs are putting in upwards of 10-20hrs a week (if not more). The LC position is estimated to require about 2hrs a week which is ball park - but even still, there are some LCs (such as myself) who put in considerable time to help this program succeed. |

| #32PauperJun 23, 2015 7:29:07 | Just because Adventurers League is primarily a marketing tool for WotC doesn't mean it has to be that for everyone -- likewise, baseball is primarily a business for the owners and players who belong to MLB, but that doesn't stop you from sitting in a ballpark with a beer and a hot dog on a cool summer evening and just enjoying the experience.
For me, the big insight is that OP may be the largest campaign being run, but it's just one campaign -- it can't and shouldn't try to be all things to all players. It's great that you're having a great time in the campaign, but if someone else isn't, it's not a crime to say that the OP experience might not be the best fit for that player, and that a campaign more dedicated to that player's needs would give that player the experience he's looking for.
Trying to be both a dessert topping and a floor wax was one of the big mistakes of Living Forgotten Realms; it's good to see the current admins are taking that lesson to heart.
