| #1FelwredNewJul 10, 2015 12:03:28 | Two different lines of faction questions: 1. We are introduced to factions in AL but there doesn't seem to be anything published talking about specifics on what you gain access to or responsibilities you may incur as you move up in a faction. One player in an AL group I'm in said you could spend renown to get spells cast or get spell scrolls. Where do we find specifics on our factions on what we have access to as we move up?
2. Moving up to level 3 in your faction requires completing a secret mission. As we don't have access to the encounters (other than the published hardcovers and Phandelver), how can we find the secret missions to move up in our respective factions? Is this listed somewhere?
Thank you!

2: The secret missions are available only in Expeditions (DDEX modules). To the best of my knowledge, they are only currently available in Season 1 Adventures (which was honestly a bit sloppy on someone's part, but that's a different story altogether). There is only 1 secret mission for each faction that I am aware of, which only gets characters to level 3 in their faction. |
| #3KalaniJul 10, 2015 12:47:30 | At this time, there is no way to gain Rank 4 in a Faction. Ain- is slighly inaccurate. Additional information about the factions can be found in the DMG but I have not compared them closely to see if the DMG information differs from that in the ALPG.
The factions are loosely aligned. They play little role in the published adventures (LMoP, HotDQ, RoT, PotA, etc), but play a greater role in Expeditions (in which they assign frequent faction quests). The factions don't expect the players to complete these quests on their behalf - but they encourage it. Most of these quests are also offered as an offhand request:
Sometimes, your faction will also give you the adventure hook for an Expedtion, or give you access to a secret mission that is otherwise unavailable. |

| #8FelwredNewJul 13, 2015 13:36:27 | As a player without access to being able to complete every encounters/expeditions adventure - is there as compiled list out there for which modules have secret missions for each of the factions?
Of course, this is to advance rank for the sole purpose of advancing rank - to date, I am unaware of specific benefitis or ties in-game to what rank you are in a faction and how it comes up in gameplay for AL.

| #9KalaniJul 13, 2015 14:11:07 | There is no such list. In fact, the admins strongly discourage the creation of such a list as they want players to discover what a module contains organically - by playing it. As such, there are no lists of secret missions, magic items, etc. |
| #10SorsohkaJul 15, 2015 5:42:04 | Faction bonus:
- Give you a free ressurection if you die at level 4 or under - In Mulmaster only, if you are rank 3 (by the single module within season1 that contain your faction seret mission) you have access to a extra downtime acitivty based on your faction (Harper can rescue an ally from the cloaks, Order of the gauntlet can receive the help of a NPC veteran for a single fight in a mission, Emerald enclave give you a discount on mount, Lord Alliance receive a secret about the mission (determined by the DM) Zhenterim got access to a black market allowing them to buy item not available to other players etc...
From my knowledge faction do not offer anything else other then those 2 bonus for the moment, but as we progress further in the season, new rank become available and new perks should be released. Rank 2 allow you to have a mentor, but since we don't know what a mentor does, we have no clue what having a mentor offer us. Rank 4 allow you to become a mentor and shouldbe explain when rank 4 will be release Rank 5 make you a leader in the faction and the bonuses should also be explain when rank 5 will be release.
Somehow, since Skerrit already said that they are thinking about modifying the magic item system, I kind of hope that if the token system is not introduce, that the mentor mechanic will allow to give some item from the mentor to the mentoree. For sure such trade will need to be monitor, something like: the mentor cannot give to the mentoree a magical item if it would bring the magical item count of the mentoree higher then character level /2 and only while he's a rank2 member. only rare and uncommon item cna be traded this way. So basically if you didn't find a magical item by the time you reach level 3 your mentor could give you rare item.
This would allow high level character to discharge there useless item (My high level character got a longsword+1 back at level 3 and now that he's level 15 he got a longsword flametongue, and never use his longsword +1, now he could give it to his mentoree, and this would prevent the low level character to say: "well I need to do adventure X because I want that item" he can simply receive it from his mentor. solving 2 problems with one elegant solution that got a nice in-game mechanic.
Yes people could abuse this by creating a low level character simply to give to him his broken wand that rolled a 1 when used the last charge, but if people want to abuse/cheat, they could erase the wand from there logsheet and there they never received it, at least it might be legit, but they had to work into creating a rank 2 character (require 3 renown, so a minimum of 2 adventure) then they need to reach level 4 to discharge a second item. |
