| #1sliceoffruitMar 31, 2015 15:36:21 | Hello everyone!
I expect almost 30 players tomorrow as we start Princes of the Apocalypse in Montreal and would love some help!
I am looking to hand out cards to players to indicate their adventure hook. Please suggest any adventure hooks you may have!
I will compile them on this document.

How about...
Show You are a runaway from the Cult of the Dragon who is so against cults now that they are actively seeking out cults in order to try to put a stop to them.
You were born in the waters of the Moonsea and want to preserve it from being tainted by evil cults.
You set out from Neverwinter on a quest to find and discover new and wonderful secrets about the elements! |
| #3PauperApr 01, 2015 8:00:11 | Here are a few character hooks that might be useful -- note, some may be more challenging to play than others.
- Choose a fighter or barbarian at the table with you. During a bar brawl in Phlan, that character knocked your character over the head with a chair, knocking your character unconscious. Your character was taken into custody by the Black Fist and required to spend the night in jail. Decide how your character would react to meeting that character again.
- Choose a rogue or member of the Zhentarim at the table with you. Your character accidentally received a message intended for that character. Decide what the message was about, and whether or not your character would reveal that information to the other character.
- Choose a cleric, paladin, or character with the Acolyte background at the table with you. Another member of that character's faith accused one of your ancestors of demon-worship. Decide if the accusation was true, and how your character reacted to learning of that accusation.
- Choose an arcane spellcaster at the table with you. That character's sigil (the arcane symbol that identifies the character to other arcane spellcasters) is remarkably similar to that of a famous spellcaster from your home area. Decide if the famous spellcaster was heroic or villainous, and how your character would respond to meeting someone that might be connected with that person.
Hope these help!

| #5AinulindalionApr 01, 2015 9:55:36 | My recommendation is that you start with a caravan out to the village.
The description from the document specifies that priests from Waterdeep cycle through the All Faith's Shrine on a monthly basis, which means that their temples will need someone to escort them. For Clerics or Paladins, this could come as an order (if they match one of the six deities listed as contributing priests). Everyone else could be hired on as a caravan guard.
Further, the factions could ask new recruits to investigate 'strange rumors' coming from the area.
You don't need to be super detailed for your hook.
Coordinating character specific hooks (and remembering to tie them in to the story later, with multiple DMs) would be a hellish amount of work for 30+ players. |

| #7PauperApr 02, 2015 11:10:56 | Thanks. I haven't seen the PDF for the Elemental Evil Encounters season yet, so I don't really have the info I'd need to put together actual plot-specific backgrounds. My experience, though, is that anything that gets the players at the table talking about how their characters are connected before the start of actual play is generally a good thing.
