Home play join Store play?

Ok this week end I had a lot of fun playing with my friend on skype, we did the entire Starter kit and came back out ready for more. But with the schedule and the fact that we live far from each other, it will be easier to go plya in store, and on the next big week end meet again and run something together.

I taught I read somewhere that home play could go in store and join an ADVLeague game no problems, as long as the character was ADVleague approved (not chaotic evil, not neutral evil, from one of the race from the PHB, usign the point buy system with 27 points, using the class from teh PHB, using the average HP given in the class description and using max gold (or the pre generated equipement) etc...

I also believe I read somewhere that a home player could go in a store and get those certificate so he could trade his items.

At the moment my Store organiser tell me that he didn't read such thing, and therefore that character is not allowed to be played. can someone link me where I could have read that since I don't remember.

Thank you

You can take a character that has played a legal adventure at home (starter set, HotDQ, etc...) and take them to a store game (say an an Expeditions). That's perfectly legal. The store doesn't however, get certs to give you for things you play at home, so you could earn items, but not trade them.

Keep in mind, if your level is very different than the group, like you are 4 and the rest of the group is 1 and 2, they make ask you not to bring that character and start another.

It's bad form to step into some where new with something so out of sync.

Can't you download the certs for homeplay that you get in the modules?  It used to be that way in Living Greyhawk.

We have different programs for different areas. LMoP and HotDQ are the adventures for home play. Encounters are for stores. The Expeditions are for stores and conventions. The Epics are for conventions. Not even all conventions will have certs. The only difference of having a cert or not is the ability to trade. HotDQ can be played at home or as part of Encounters and you actually get more xp if you play it at home. Those are about the only differences I can think of.

Those are big enough differnences to really turn me off from it.  I'm primarily interested in the Moonsea stuff, but I can't run it at home.  Bleh.  Seems restrictive for no good reason.

Personally, one of my favorite parts of any DnD is character creation. So I definitely don't mind making a character for home, a character for AL, and a character for a convention (though I'd probably never get to do a convention!). Not to mention the fact that it'd be weird, to me, that one character might exist in different universes

Well I have to say Im really Digging Encounters. I love the 'You mean my Sleep can SCALE?!' . I love the new magic system a lot.

I kinda like gaming in the store too. Just feels a little more conducive to a good gaming session then home where games can and often degenerate into talk on previous sessions/experiences other.

Also it gets me out socialising.

You can also play Lost Mine or Hoard of the Dragon Queen at home. As long as you are following the rules in the master players document and logsheeting you are good to go.

Yep!  I saw that over on canonfire forums.  Thanks for mentioning it.

Thanks for the help and answering my questions, even if it's not what I want to hear.

AL can be cool, but it doesn't fit what I can do.  I have to home game for the moment.

I bet Geoff was cool.  I was in the Gran March, which I thought would suck, but it actually was really cool and I learned to appreciate it in a while I hadn't thought of before.
