Is it just me or does the RoD Expeditions release schedule look a bit wonky?

Just checked the resource download center to plan my FLGS' schedule for the coming months, when something caught my eye as seemingly odd. Are the dates for DDEX3-5/6/7 accurate? It seems like by releasing 4 of the 16 RoD Expeditions in the first month of a 7-month season, the scheduling of the other 6 months look like slim pickings.

Since Tier 3 Expeditions are now a reality, could we see the total number of Expeditions each season increase? That way, play in the lower tiers don't see a drop in the quantity of adventures; especially with so many 2-hour Expeditions on the schedule. For being the "long season," this upcoming season seems rather short on adventure content.

Lower tiers won't see a drop in adventures as they have a full 2 seasons worth of material to play through (just because it is the Hillsfar season doesn't mean you are prohibited from running an expedition in Phlan or Mulmaster to fill the gaps)

There are budgetary constraints on how many adventures can be offered each season, so that's an issue.

In addition, there is a deliberate "gap" in the release schedule. I know there's a reason for it, though I can't remember what it is off-hand.

Cheers!

There should be roughly 2 adventures a month like there always is, I will take a look at it. Its likely a consequence of when the premier and regional premier conventions are that moved things around. It just means you'll get some adventures in December instead of it being the dark month like it was last time.

As for more adventures, there will not be any extra added to this season (as we are already working on Season 4 and Season 3 is almost fully in the can), though we have talked about ways that might be adjusted in the future (such as for Season 5 where the planning stages are now; no promises as there is no extra budget or staff). The number of adventures hasn't changed, we have just converted some of the 4 hour adventures to 2 hour adventures due to the overwhelming demand for it. It doesn't mean that all of those 2 hour adventures can't be extended to 4 hours if you are playing at a con (many of those adventures have optional encounters/sidebars to help you do just that). Counting the published adventure its still more than 110 hours of content (not counting any adventures you extend from 2 to 4 hours.)

Thanks for the quick replies. Good to know that some of the 2 hour adventures can be extended to 4 hours, as that reduces the need to do reruns of older adventures. Could the resource download center table be updated to denote which adventures will have the extension option, so that other DMs won't have similar WTF reactions upon first glance of the table? Simply listing those as "2-4 hours" would help alert DMs that the adventures in question have two playthrough options to better fit their scheduling needs.

While the admins have direct involvement in the planning and development of Expeditions - they have no special knowledge regarding any of the hardcover products (outside of the general theme for the season).  Greg couldn't spoiler anything in OotA any more than you could.

Just a note: the Appendix A in the Encounters portion of the adventure is the same as the single page in Dragon+, so that may be all there is to it. That said, people should actually start getting the adventure shortly, so they'll be able to confirm.
