This new season will run from March first through July 15 - four and a half months.  ToD ran from August 1st through the end of February - 7 months.  Will this be typical?  Will the seasons start being more similar in length to EE?  Just trying to get an understanding of how many seasons there will be each year.

There will always be two seasons per year; a short one followed by a slightly longer one.

Interesting though, while the cover of the Guide says July 15th, page 8 of the Guide says this:

"The Elemental Evil storyline season takes place from March 2015 to August 2015."

So which one is the correct end date?

I believe that the intent is to release a new ALPG around July 15, so thus the date on the cover. The third season starts at Gen Con the first weekend of August (well, truthfully July 28 I believe), so thus the note about the length of the season in the document.

That makes a lot of sense, and allows WotC to continue to use GenCon as an 'acquisition con' to bring in new players.

Previously, I and some other local folks found ourselves irritated at the dearth of high-level play offered at GenCon during LFR, and when the 'acquisition con' reason was offered, we found it unpersuasive. But, since players are going to be making new characters for the new AL season anyway, having a majority of play be entry-level, low-tier play makes sense, with occasional opportunities for higher-tier characters to get in some play as well.
