Hi, I tried to compile an XP, GP, and magic item award list for this module.  Hope this helps for your Adventure Logsheet.  I tried to compile this with the maximum award possible.  Players can choose to do less, I just tried to include everything that the module had in it.  I divided the long section of the Spiders web into 2 parts as (if you have run it) it takes 2 sessions at least to complete.  So according to the rules just released, this would allow for banking of 50 days of downtime.  As far as renown points, there was nothing in the module, so I would have to assume that section remains zero until further guidence is released.

Good Luck

I put this on a sheet that I could toss in my box set. Felt that I should share it for anyone else that might like it.

(I did a bit of reformatting so it'd all sit happily on one page)

So with one Part in the Starter Set equaling one episode, that means PCs that complete all four Parts/Episodes can earn 4 renown and 40 downtime days. It only takes 3 renown to reach the second rank of a Faction, so that is achievable within the Starter Set. It takes 10 renown to reach rank 3, and that means we would need a minimum of 6 episodes in the Tyranny of Dragons materials. I wonder if the half material for Encounters play will have six episodes, or if the book will need to be purchased to access more than six episodes and open up rank 3 for the factions.

[edit]

By the way, at rank 2, a PC becomes eligible for secret missions and to apprentice to a master for her faction. Also, a PC must be level 5 and have completed one secret mission, in addition to the ten renown, in order to reach rank 3 within a faction. Based on the target levels, I am going to assume that a PC can reach rank 2 in a faction via the Starter Set and D&D Encounters play, but that the Horde of the Dragon Queen will need to be purchased in order to supply enough episodes to reach level 5, 10 renown, and a secret mission for rank 3 promotion. The requirements to reach rank 4 in a faction do not appear possible until the second adventure book is published this fall.

I'm not sure you can join a faction until Part 2 but the way the renown costs escallate it probably doesn't matter.

That is something else I wondered about. Do you miss out on the renown for Part 1 and possibly Part 2?

You don't have to miss out, as you can choose to be a Faction member from PC creation, as per the AL Character Creation document.  Or am I misinterpretting?

You may choose a faction at creation.

I was searching for info on the downtime/renown for this and this post was helpful!

Correction on Goblin Arrows though, you get 350 XP by the end of it.

Finding hideout/Defeating Ambushes: 75 xp per

Exploring hideout/Defeat Klarg: 275 xp per

Thanks though!

With respect to gaining Rank 3 in your faction (some of this is repeated; collected here for clarity):

  • You can join a faction at character creation.

  • You need to be at least 5th level, have at least 10 renown points, AND complete a secret mission (not merely an assignment).

  • There are no secret faction missions in Lost Mines of Phandelver, Horde of the Dragon Queen, or The Rise of Tiamat.

  • The only secret missions available in the first ten Expeditions events (DDEX1-1 through 1-10) are in Tyranny in Phlan (DDEX1-10).

  • Only two of the five factions have secret missions in Tyranny in Phlan.

Show

  • The two factions are the Harpers, and the Lords' Alliance.

Oh, I misunderstood.  I thought being Rank 3 allowed you to take the secret mission.

So, if my PC has 10+ reknown, and is 5th level, he is *not* rank 3; He still has to complete a Secret Mission....correct?

I have checked all released Expeditions:

DDEX1-3 has one 4th level Wizard without a spellbook listed.

Show
Warsh. Probably he won't get killed, but if yes, his spellbook should be laying somewhere?

I'm assuming more info on Rank 3+ will come out with the Elemental Evil storyline.

There was a bit of confusion today on whether or not character from the "Tyranny of Dragons" story origin would be allowed in Elemental Evils.  From what I've gathered you can still use the character, but don't gain any of the new rule additions added by choosing the "Elemental Evil" story origin.  Our organizer seemed to think otherwise though..

You are correct. No matter your story origin, you can play adventures from any storyline; but you are limited to rules items from those books allowed for your story origin.

I am confused...Rules items from books allowed in our story origin....

So if I made my character during Hoard of the Dragon Queen.....Does that meansI can never use rules from the DMG?  Even though for example RoT specifically refers to rolling loot from DMG tables...Or I can't use DMG actions that other characters can because I am from hotDQ?

I know that HotDQ did not use DMG rules because it wasnt printed yet....but it sounds like a permanent hamstring the way you said it?.

First, they are talking about rules for character advancement, so classes, subclasses, feats, skills, languages, etc. (and character creation, so races etc.)

They are not talking about things like Flanking or Marking.  If they decide to use those from the DMG (Which they have *not* yet) then that is a play issue, not a character advancement issue.

Second, if they ever did create another 'core' type book (PHB2, adventuring handbook, etc) It is a simple matter to allow those.

Right now, all it means is you can't mix and match the 'extras' of character creation and advancement from the two seasons.  So no taking Dragon Schollar background with your Genasi PC.

There is nothing preventing a character from running HoTDQ with an EE Story Origin.

Don't think of the adventure as being related to a Story Origin, Story Origin applies to characters and character advancement.
