Missing Certs

After playing through parts of PotA I noticed that there are several certs missing. There are certs missing from the encounters portion of chapter six as well as some of the higher level side adventures in that chapter. After looking through some more of the book it seems like there are items missing from chapter five as well. Is this a widely known issue, or did my FLGS miss a delivery?

It's widely known.  A number of items do not have certs.  I'm sure someone with access to the entire cert list and the adventure has likely worked out exactly what is missing, but I don't know for sure.

Has there been any official word on why these certs are missing, or any word on how it is being addressed?

Well, as for it being addressed .. there really isn't anything to address.

The certs are not *required* for your PCs to have the item.  The cert is only required if the PC might want to later trade that item to another PC (or a convention trading post, I guess.)

Without a cert, as long as the logsheet is current, that item can be carried over into any AL-sanctioned game that the PC is legal to play in.  The DM can question it, but that logsheet reigns supreme, unless the DM ran the player through the game and *knows* they didn't give out that item.

I don't know the answer for certain, but I believe the items were either not in the draft of the adventure used when the order was made for printing certs or the items were missed by whomever made the order and so the certs for those items were never printed. No certs exist for those items. They are still legal items and you can still earn them, you just don't get a certificate. There will be no "extra mailing" where a print run is ordered just for those missing items (its cost prohibitive and no budget exists for it), and its also not that certificates are no longer being used in DnDAL play.

On a related note, what should be viewed as the accurate item if the item listed in the adventure is different from the item listed on the cert? If an item is listed as having a +2 bonus on the cert while being listed as having a +1 bonus in the adventure which would be the correct one to use?

The shield +2 cert was an error. It should have been the +1 shield mentioned (I remember reading about it previously).

A similar thing occured in Hoard of the Dragon Queen in which Talis' armor was described as +1 scale (but with a unique description), but the cert was for white dragonscale

At my table, I simply altered the text of Talis' armor to align with the white dragonscale (as HotDQ was printed before the DMG).

I suppose it could be worse. The packet I got for PotA contained only item certs for DDEX1-11 through DDEX 1-14.

The EE Mulmaster packet had the right certs though so far as I know.

Were the additional certs for the first half of the season one expeditions part of the original print run, or were they printed later to meet the demand?

I don't know. They were in a shrinkwrapped bundle of folios, inside the elemental evil DM packet* that had a bit of information about PotA, the DM table tent, DM reward cert, an extra Elemental Crystal cert, and then the four sheets of 3 certs each (same cert per sheet) for DDEX1-11 to 1-14.

I no longer have any part of the packet so I can't check to see what the other sheet was that had like two lines of text on it.

* One of two, one was fairly clearly for the Mulmaster Expeditions, having a four page expedition instruction sheet (Nothing like that in mine), and had 3 copies each (3 per sheet) of  cert sheets for DDEX2-1 to DDEX 2-3 I believe. As well as a sheet of quotes, DM tent, DM reward cert, and a few other odds and ends that I didn't get a decent look at because it went to a different DM. The other, the one I got had something about Princes of the Apocalypse in it, but it was like a little paper slip.

I remember one of the admins speaking about the shield (and previously about the armor). Sorry I don't have a link as it is most likely burried somewhere in the FB group. Needle, meet haystack - that kind of thing.
