| #1sigfileOct 12, 2014 10:37:00 | It's a pity the first adventuring tier is levels 1-4. A character's capacity to survive any given fight goes up dramatically with each of these levels; a combat element that would make for a good challenge to a party of third level adventurers will absolutely wipe a party of first level combatants. I've no idea if the same is true between levels five and ten, but since that's a six-level range I'm going to include those modules anyway.
I'm not looking for discussion regarding adventure design or 5E design in general, here. I'm hoping to keep a running list of the released modules with a recommended average character level (or better) to help coordinators decide what to run without forcing them to be intimately familiar with the details of every mod as it becomes available, and I mean to keep it spoiler-free. Please address any detailed feedback for a module to that module's discussion thread.

| #3RCanineOct 12, 2014 14:34:19 | I haven't played all of these yet, but I would say DDEX1-1 should be recommended level 1. Of the ones I've played, even a level two character makes these adventures unchallenging.
For 1-2 and 1-3 recommended levels could be 2-3. By 4 I think you're already too powerful for these to be challenging.
For 1-6 I'd recommend 2-4. I don't see how a level 1 could survive this adventure without being carried by a higher-level player, and certain level 2 characters will be hard-pressed to survive one round of combat in some of these fights.
I realize that leaves level 1 pickings pretty slim, but that's the nature of 5E. I recommend players all DM their way through level 1, and/or the AL staff build some hand-holdy level 1-2 adventures that give 300 XP. |

RCanine - I wholeheartedly agree. I'd love to see some specifically tailored introductory modules designed to maximize exposure to the key players in the area while keeping the lethality to a minimum. |

DDEX1-1 is designed for characters levels 1-2, and optimized for five 1st level characters. Mission 2 has the most challenging combats. Personal recommendation: Run the missions in this order: 1, 3, 4, 5, 2; the PCs should reach Level 2 after the third mission they play (so after 1, 3, and 4).
DDEX1-2 through DDEX1-6 are designed for characters levels 1-4, and optimized for five 2nd level characters.
{unconfirmed} DDEX1-7 through DDEX1-9 are designed for characters levels 1-4, and optimized for five 3rd level characters.
Although each adventure has advice for scaling up or down based on PC level and number of PCs, my experience has been that the further away the table deviates from the target design, the more swingy things get, and the more difficult it is to estimate the length of the adventure (if a 4-hour hard-stop is needed). |
