Just a small question:

I've been DMing a bunch of games over at the Mox Boarding house in Bellevue but haven't been keeping track of the experience of the games I've been DMing, can I still show up and play one of the 4 hour adventures with a 4th level character?

Well, you need to document the xp on a logsheet. If you have the dates and know what you ran, you can do up your logsheet before you play. To be 4th-level you'd need about ~13-14 games DMed (depending on tier).

By 'Bunch of Games' what do you mean? Lost Mine? Hoard of the Dragon Queen?

If it was expeditions, you average about 200 exp for a Tier 1-4 scenario. It takes 13 Tier 1-4 scenarios to get you to a bit over 2700 exp which is level 4.

(Priinces of the Apocalypse Spoilers Warning)

We ran two side missions out of Princes of the apocalypse - the orc farm invasion and the escort wagon train.  Then we cleared out the air temple and defeated the prophet Aerisi and then cleared out the water temple, no defeating of the prophet there (gar shattershield i believe) and didn't defeat but did fight the dragont turtle.  6 total sessions, two sessions for the side missions, 4 for the temple clearing. The XP was 20850 XP per character per the advice at the beginning of the chapter for the indiviual temples in POP (I dont have the page number handy).

i don't know if it is common to run the full campaigns for adventure league, I got roped into DMing because we were short on DMs and the group was large and fluid enough to support it, so I said sure.

Thats cool.

First thing that you did good with was NOT using the Milestone method. AL dosnt support the Milestone at all (which apparently was somewhat of an issue at Gencon).

All you need to do is work out when you got DM exp and downtime for Princes. There is a chart in another thread (you basically get both when you finish each of the above ground areas above the cult strongholds then for each stronghold.

This is from another thread:

Below should help you determine when you should of got DM Exp. Keep in mind the differential from Tier 1-4 to Tier 5-10 (consult your AL players guide for further info)

DM Credit only gets awarded at the end of the episode, so if your game kinda finished before you say cleared out the Water Temple then there wouldnt be DM exp there.

From what I read of your original post, I dont think you have done enough to get to 4 just on that.

Princes of the Apocalypse

  • This adventure does not have clearly identified episodes. Each of the following counts as an episode
  • Chapter 6: Completing the short quests (Into the Woods, Necromancers Cave, etc).
  • Chapter 6: Completing the "Tomb of Moving Stones"
  • Chapter 6: The Tier 2 Sidequests do not count as an Episode.
  • Chapter 3: Each of the 4 Haunted Keeps counts as a single episode (4 total). Adventuring in the Dessarian Valley does not count as an episode
  • Chapter 4: Each of the 4 Elemental Temples counts as a single episode (4 total).
  • Chapter 5: Each of the 4 Elemental Fanes counts as a single episode, as does the Fane of the Eye (5 total).

There are a total of 15 episodes in Princes of the Apocalypse, although players are only expected to complete 13-15 of them (11-13 if they skipped the Chapter 6 pre-adventure).

So it looks like i'm not getting any credit for what I DMed, guess i'll be using a level 1 or my deleveled cleric from the previous part of POP.  Thanks for the replies.

You cleared out the air Temple there is exp there and you cleared out the Water temple. Exp there also. Both sound like Tier 5-10 areas so there is 400 exp there for the first and 400 exp for the second. Sounds like a level 2 nearly 3 character right there.

You misunderstand. Each of the temples is an episode - 4 episodes in total. The quote appears to be one of mine actually.

The adventure has 15 episodes in it. 2 in chapter 6; 4 in chapter 3; 4 in chapter 4; and 5 in chapter 5

Sorry Kalani, I should have put that part in there and I didnt. I apologise. Either way that DM credit is not level 1 anymore.

My hope is for next Season we get a similar chart from Kalani for Rage of Demons!

Each Tier 2 episode of Princes of the Apocalypse (which the temples would count as) awards the DM 600 XP, 300 GP, and 10 DT days.

If you completed two temples, your DM awards PC should have 1200 XP, 600 gp, and 20 DT days, which would make it level 3.

When did they change it? If you look at the start of the chapters, it lists the level of each dungeon. The first two haunted keeps are L3-L4 making them tier 1 (for the purpose of DM rewards). In chapter 5 most of the elemental nodes are tier 3 but the fane of the eye is tier 2 (L10)

. I haven't seen anything suggesting otherwise. Was there an update to the FAQ entry for PotA that I missed (possible but unlikely given my involvement in helping maintain the FAQ)?

I don't think anything has changed, Kalani.
