After rescuing a very precious recipe from the depths of Phlan, one of my characters decided to open up a tavern in memory of the said tavern lost. In doing so, I accumilated the 5000 gold pieces to purchase a guild-hall, since it seemed closest to a tavern, and the tavern is not a thing you can purchase within the DMG (The DM and I both agreed on this.) After many adventures accumilating the wealth, I sat myself down for the 60 days required, and spent the 5000 gold pieces (With both retainer cost and living style cost) and bought myself the new and improved laughing goblin in Mulmaster. However, I am confused whether or not Adventure League will allow such a thing. I haven't came across anything (Possibly of yet.) in regards to not allowing the purchase of property and taverns- and it doesn't seem like something that is a tad over-powered in regards to other things players made do in the DMG if possible. So, are you allowed to purchase purchase and build property in Adventure League? |

Further, members of the Cloaks must spend 3 DT days on Cloak Business for each Mulmaster (currently season 2) adventure they complete. |

I would not even go as far as to say it is illegal. Just not really covered by the rules so you should expect table variation.

Well, I guess whenever I enter into a game, I'll inform my DM of the ruling, and ask permission. Though "illegal" I guess the DM gets the final say in these matters. I most likely won't be using the down-time activity of running a shop (Which requires allot of down-time days within itself.) and really got it as a character goal completed.
Though, to be perfectly honest, all I want is the laughing goblin back. |
| #7KalaniJul 12, 2015 14:13:57 | WIth that being said - you can always handwaive it. For example, one of my characters accidentilly came into possession of the Swinging Sword in Red Larch. While I could not make use of the Downtime Business rules, I made it a zero-sum establishment (all profits go into keeping the inn afloat and paying wages). The inn basically gave us free room/board whenever we were in Red Larch, but otherwise didn't increase my characters wealth in any way. |
| #8LordHighInvestigatorJul 12, 2015 14:18:41 | Well that's good news. I didn't really build the tavern for the money, only for the cabbage soup. |
| #9Blade2718Jul 12, 2015 18:16:13 | We did the same thing in an adventure with a boat. After declaring ownership from the vanquished crew, we just use it for fast transporation around the Moonsea with all "miscellaneous income" going toward paying the crew and maintaining the ship. |
