Hello,

I have a question regarding Lost Mines of Phandelver.

I am currently playing this as a home game as a way to get my group involved in the Adventurer's League.

How does one get more magic item certificates for potential replay purposes?

Thanks in advance for the advice and guidance

Since it's home play, you don't. But don't worry, magic item certificates are mostly just for trading; you can always claim a magic item without a certificate.

So what does one do when that person participates in both?

Home play for what is legal in AL as home play then go to FLGS' and conventions to play adventures only legal at those venues and still want to trade items?

In some cases, your FLGS may be willing to provide you certificates for magic items received in Lost Mines of Phandelver home play. Not all stores may have received them (I believe the store would have had to order the adventure a month prior, for in-store play), and not all stores who have them may be willing to provide them, but it's the only way I know of to obtain the certificates so that you can trade the magic items you earned.

Scenario: During play, you defeated the evil Brewmeister and recovered the fabled (and fictitious) Beer Mug +1. The other party members decided it would be the perfect fit for your character, who is a tea-totaller. There's a convention coming up, and you hope to trade the Beer Mug +1 for a legendary Tea Cozy of Warmth. You approach the person in charge of Adventure League stuff at your FLGS, explain the situation, and ask if they still have a certificate for the Beer Mug +1. You show your Adventurers Logsheet, where the item was duly recorded. On a successful Charisma check the store representative gives you the certificate and wishes you well.

Good luck!

Thank you Breen... that was my understanding as well... my post is largely to see if there were other options.  This just means I work other sources.

To Blade:  It really isnt that simple... people play to fit the situation they are in... maybe the FLGS is not that friendly and not participating in AL, or the cost of going to a convention is too prohibitive, or a million other legitimate reasons.  It would be reasonable to think that WOTC would kickoff a program that is more inclusive than exclusive.  Treating home play as red-headed step children is not a way to be inclusive.  Considering that Paizo is dominating the table top RPG world currently, I would think trying to get everyone else to play this game would be the priority.

You still have the magic item, you just can't trade it. I don't see how this is exclusive.
