Roleplaying vs. Mechanics: need help with a character concept.

Since we don't have a roleplaying help forum, I hope it's okay to ask this here.

I have started a Dragonborn Rogue with the Acolyte background.  He is lawful good and worships Bahamut.  I have some ideas for the way I want him to progress, but I cannot come up with a storyline or background-centric reasoning for him choosing to multiclass into Warlock.  I understand that sometimes Warlock pacts are unwanted or, maybe, desired at first but not any more.  How or why would a LG worshipper of Bahamut ever end up in a pact with (a) an archfey, which has nothing to do whatsoever with anything to do with a worshipper of Bahamut, (b) a fiend, which is evil and really my character wouldn't have a reason to be interacting with one, or (c) a great old one, which also has nothing to do with anything to do with Bahamut?

The main reason (mechanically) that I want to take him Warlock is to get the Darkvision invocation.  The spellcasting would go by the wayside as he wouldn't focus on it, maybe using True Strike to gain advantage on an attack or something.  Also, mechanically, it works fine because of his Charisma stat being a 14, so he is good to go in that respect.  I am just having the problem with the roleplaying aspect.

Easy - start him as a Warlock and then multiclass into Rogue. He entered into a pact without realizing how pervasive it would be, then turned to faith in Bahamut to 'save' him from the long-term impact of the Warlock pact.

The pact patron, for his/her own reasons, is continuing to abide by the pact and provide the Warlock with power, which is a constant source of worry for the dragonborn, as it implies that faith in Bahamut won't actually save him from the mistakes of his past.

There are a few mechanical differences by choosing to multiclass Warlock -> Rogue rather than Rogue -> Warlock, but nothing so huge that it should break optimization.

You and a Imp/Quasit/Other type of demon or devil where fighting when both of you were rocked by a spell of some sort. Said demon/devil melded with you instead of dying. Granting you what little power it had. But now you have a voice in your head urging you to do bad things. Lot's of Roleplay potential.

Charmed by a succubus into a deal. She plans for you to betray your god some day, but in the mean time grants you her favor.

I assume their are lots of Archfey. Some are good and could work hand in hand with dragons when the need arises. you know, such as the cult of the dragon.

This is a great rp cliche but I thought Id bring it up

'Is your character actually worshipping Bahamut'? Really?

Your character might think they are, they have seen the signs of such worship and they talk to a creature that is said to be the servant of Bahamut but at the end of the day A Fey can misdirect and glamour almost anyone with their silvered words and appearances. Now the Fey itself could feel that they are working for Bahamuts best interests... and maybe they are.. or maybe they are not.

Like I said, its a cliche which can be heavily modified.

I like this idea.  Thank you!  It fits well within the character concept.  He's Lawful Good and he's overly optimistic.  He's not untrusting, so when he begins talking with a creature that claims to be a servant of Bahamut, well .. why would he doubt them?  So, when he gets into the pact, he thinks he is getting closer to Bahamut, when in reality, he's not.  Once he's gotten a little deeper into things and he starts realizing that something isn't right is when he will go back to his roots and be a Rogue again.  This will also change his personality somewhat, in that he will no longer blindly trust a strange creature as being what they claim to be.

Or.. he might never found out. Some people dont question. They dont see the need to .. or they dont want to in case all isnt as it seems.

On your characters deathbed he/she might suddenly realise this..
