| #1SorsohkaJul 14, 2015 11:07:41 | Season3 behind right aroudn the corner and I still didn't saw anything about a player companion for season 3. did I miss it or did they stay silent about it?
Anyone know if they intent to release a PDF for free? Anyone know what we can expect to find inside it? is it going to be like season2 with only new race and spells, or can we hope for new feats, new subclass, or even new class? |
| #2AndrewJOJul 14, 2015 11:20:27 | It's still a month and a half away until season 3 starts, so it could be a while until the new players companion comes out. It should be similar to last seasons player companion, we won't know what's in it until it comes out though. There will be a free PDF release along with the book. |
| #3ZHDarkstarJul 14, 2015 12:31:30 | Hopefully a new player companion comes sooner rather than later. I'm not too picky about what I hope it contains, so long as it comes out with enough time to familiarize myself with it for the sake of the tables I run. Even though players will have only one story origin's worth of player options to choose from, DMs have to keep track of all of them to know which resource to reference when questions arise.
It also makes it easier to schedule character workshops when you know the release dates. |
| #4PrimarchxJul 14, 2015 12:43:39 | The first 3rd Season event appears to be the Epic at GenCon at the end of this month and there's a whole set of mods coming out in August. I imagine we'll be seeing something very soon. |
| #5SkerritJul 14, 2015 13:37:29 | The season 3 book comes out Sept 15th, so you have almost 2 months before you see published material. The new DnDALPG is planned to be out before Gen Con (just worked on an edit of it), but something like the Elemental Evil Player's Companion might come out free online before 9/15. I have no knowledge one way or the other. The events at Gen Con are specifically listed as previews because you are getting to play them before the season actually begins.

Aarocokra are in. Multiclassing is out Multiclassing is mandatory All Paladins become Oathbreakers and must Atone You can now conjure/summon from the Monster Manual, but it is done by random die roll ewoks as a new race (hey, crossover potential...)

| #35Danny_MontannyJul 30, 2015 5:05:03 | Is there any word on if the Rage of Demons AL Player's Guide will be amended to include the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide as allowed rules? It's release should be well before they have their characters locked in at 5th level and I know if I was playing I'd want to have those new, awesome options available. |
| #36KalaniJul 30, 2015 5:13:02 | According to Greg - it won't. We (the campaign staff) don't change the "allowed rules" for characters mid season. The SCAG won't be available till season 4 at the earliest.
There is a slim chance that WotC may state it is legal for AL upon release but don't get your hopes up.
RoD characters are stuck with whatever options are in Out of the Abyss (Appendix A). Even if WotC releases a free online pdf like they did last season - characters won't be able to use it, as it is not listed in the "allowed rules". This is especially true if said pdf differs from Appendix A in any way (the EEPC included 3 race options that was not included in PotA for example). |
| #37Danny_MontannyJul 30, 2015 5:24:40 | Except that the season doesn't start until September 9th, so updating the document before then would be easily done. |
| #38KalaniJul 30, 2015 5:47:13 | The players guide is legal now and supersedes the season 2 PG. The new "encounters" season is not until September however - but players can play RoD characters at GenCon for example and can even bring them to play S2 content as of last Friday.
Since people can already make and plaY RoD characters, that detail is moot. It is also moot alongside the fact that despite being promised an updated ALPG (v2.1) last season in order to correct some copy/paste errors and omissions - those errors were never officially corrected until the ALPG (v3.0).
