Special permission (or merchant?) for silvering a weapon?

I have a level 3 Fighter who uses a Maul.  If I want to get the Maul silvered, would that require the use of Downtime days and be done between mods, or is it something that can be done (realisticly) at the beginning or end of a mod or even in te middle of a mod while in a friendly town or city?

Yeah, I saw that in the PHB, but I was making sure there wasn't an Adventurer's League specific ruling about it.
