#1 Alphastream Sep 16, 2015 16:50:50	With the forums closing it is natural to want to be a bit down about it. There are other threads for that.   I invite you to come here and say your positive farewells, remember old fun discussions, and thank friends.    --   From my end, I want to thank the admins of previous and current campaigns who spent so much time here asking questions, sharing knowledge, and learning. It was here that I met greats like Shawn Merwin, Claire Hoffman, Pieter Sleijpen, Sean Molley, Greg Marks, and so many more.    I want to thank the authors who answered questions and patiently learned from the criticism. Who exchanged ideas and helped me write better adventures.    I want to thank the players and DMs that helped me improve what I do.    I want to thank everyone that asked whether Warforged were legal.    I'm not sure I would have ended up where I am today, contributing to official D&D and organized play, without these forums. Thank you for being a great community.    Some favorite forum moments: - Wolfstar running contests and awarding badges and quotes - Shawn Merwin being told he should be run over by a bus (negative, but our laughter was positive!) - Exchanging ideas on the Dark Sun threads, many character build posts, and discussing why adventures did certain things. - Interacting with Wrecan. #3 Birched Sep 16, 2015 18:46:50	I've been a member here since 2003.  I have not been active much in recent years, and my old posts appear to be playing ninja, but I want to thank all those who contributed to my efforts putting together the NPC generator at hailscape.com, and also for many great discussions on other aspects of the game that I'm sure helped guide me to play by post and my current efforts leading the wonderful RPG Crossing forum-based community.   I think it's unfortunate that WOTC is abandoning their forums, but that is for them to decide, and I wish them good fortune with their new directions.  I was just discussing today with my wife that current social media strategies -- i.e. Twitter, Facebook, and so on -- are beginning to feel very dated (although not so dated as my own sites!), and wondering where we would go from there.  Perhaps WOTC should have waited another year or two, so that they could jump into a truly new adventure!

#5 Granville7482 Sep 17, 2015 1:29:03	Thanks to the AL staff on here who always answered questions in a very timely manner.   While they got some slack some times, and I was not always a saint, I -did- like how some answers to questions were answered with responces like "AL isnt perfect." or "It's up the the DM ,YMMV." or even two AL staff having contradicting answers. I never felt like D@D is a game where things have to have some set in stone right answer and I like that while the AL and it's staff were always professional they never seemed to impose ONE TRUE WAY and allowed one table to be different from the others. Meanwhile we still got consistancy and ruling on many of the more streamlined and less obscure questions.   Thanks for letting the AL be a place where we can enjoy some bit of table variance, and answering my questions AL staff.   Hopefully we can have a forum over at Enworld as I found this part of the WoTC forums to be a valuable resource.
#6 Pauper Sep 17, 2015 8:48:54	Been a member since 2001 and I can say that some of the best discussions I've participated in during that entire run happened on this very board. Thanks to those who participated with me.   Also, sincere thanks to those who helped my attempt to become a 'proto-Sage' by maintaining the Recommended Rulings. I learned a lot about the underlying structure of the game thanks to those arguments and conversations.   Lastly, a thanks to the old vets like Alphastream and Warfteiner who occasionally, gently reminded me that it's sometimes better to be kind than to be right.   -- Pauper
#7 ZHDarkstar Sep 17, 2015 13:47:50	It's been a good run.   Thank you to all of the AL staff who put up with the malarchy our discussions have created from time to time; especially Skerrit, with whom I butted heads a few times over issues I thought were for the greater good of the program's future.   Kalani, you have been an invaluable resource to the community, by taking a stance of proper dissemination of information over "winning" an internet debate.   While the discussion got vitriolic at times (and rivaled Move and Attack for most moderated thread), my fondest memory of this forum can be summed up in one controversial compound word: axe-lute. That thread is what changed me from occasional lurker to a forum regular.   I look forward to seeing everyone over at the ENWorld AL forum! Maybe I'll finally make my first post there soon. Time to dust off an unused forum account...

For all the angst we've shared and created for each other (!), this forum has by far balanced that all out in the positive.

Even disagreeing with people here was better than most places.  I really want to keep that same feeling and attitude going.  Which is why I really think  DnDForum at Forums for Gamers. Is a better fit for what we do. It is devoted to just DnD, and is set up to provide all the same options we have here.   Enworld and GitP are good for what they are (I am an active member in both locations). But I spend most of my time on the WotC boards because I prefer them.  There is a different attitude here, a different moderating feel, and a lot more variety in forum topics and threads created.   We could try and ‘convince’ the other sites to greatly expand their forum offerings, but if they wanted that, they could have already done it.   dndforum is a much better match for what we already have, it already has all of the different forums that we are used to. The moderation policy assumes we are all adults. (Adults don’t have thin overly sensitive skin, but they also don’t toss juvenile insults) There is a *functioning* search feature, and you will be able to personalize the site with a number of skin options.     Since the forum is new, the members will have a much stronger influence of how it could and should develop.  I think it is the best option for anyone that likes these forums, and suggest you give it a try. Please note, the current look is the ‘default’ skin.  That will change shortly, and you will also have a list of choices to personalize the look. Including uploading avatars and contributing artwork for the site.   I know some folks have started the move to EnWorld or GitP, but I really think dndforum will be a better fit for us.

I use my smartphone all the time but when I want updates on DnD I dont want updates on what type of fish Jeremy Crawford had for dinner and a picture of it. Not saying he does that, but i've seen it with many others.   No thanks on Dragon+. They should've closed that crapapp before these forums.
