| #1KalaniAug 05, 2015 23:49:00 | My party fought and killed Lyzandra "Lyzzie" Calderos and Ignatia today. Our DM roleplayed Lyzzie as being childlike and innocent, which caused my character (Queen Izula) to take an instant liking to her. It didn't help any that Lyzzie took a liking to the wildshaped Izula (who was in the form of a dire wolf at the time) - calling her "puppy", petting her and trying to add her to her collection of other puppies (aka. the hellhounds). After the initial encounter, we took Lyzzie's unconscious body back to the surface of the Scarlet Moon Hall, as we were searching fruitlessly for a long rest. Sadly, during yet another encounter with hobgoblin guards, one of the party members killed Lyzzie so that she would not revive. Izula was upset about this and carried Lyzzie's lifeless form from Scarlet Moon Hall with the intent to get her raised from the dead in the hope of convincing the "misguided" and innocent Lyzzie that the cults were bad, and try to reform her. I am so taken with this idea, I am strongly considering making a resurrected Lyzzie my main character for Season 3. As I have some DM experience, I will probably start her at Level 3 - and play her as having recently turned her back on the cults, and on the path of redemption. I would likely play her also as having recently been stripped of her arcane powers by Immix himself, and her choosing to walk a path devoid of arcane magic so as to avoid the temptation to fall into her old ways. Bonds: She would have a love of all "puppies" (anything with a doglike appearance, regardless of form). She would also have a second bond - traitor of the fire cult. |

The whole concept for me (redemption through rebirth) screams out Lathander to me who is the God of REbirth, REjuvenation and New Beginnings in Forgotten Realms. Hes typically portrayed as the God who redeems those that are wicked and gives them a second chance in life. I believe from memory Life /Light are his domains. Light opens up a lot of fire base magic however, so if your character was to take that path you could play it like you have access to a divine version of ... say fireball or burning hands but you never memorise it out of the fear it could 'destroy' you.
I like the ritual scaring and disfigurement. While later spells for Clerics also give the ability to fix such things, maybe it is a psychological thing for Lyzzie that she cannot bare to restore her features as she cannot face the person she was, or risk that person coming back and taking over her new life.
It actually kinda reminds me of Adon from th Time of Troubles novels. He was a Handsome unblemished Priest of Sune who received a Scar in combat. (Generally a big no no for Clerics of Sune). He lost access to his magic because he lost his faith. He didnt think Sune would grant him any miracles as he thought he had failed her. He was a great character (and of course overshadowed by Midnight, Kelemvor and Cyric)
Ill take a look at the character itself later on tonight after I get home from work but so far it sounds very interesting! |
| #3KalaniAug 06, 2015 0:33:13 | The character herself is described very briefly.
Given her bare-bones description, my DM took great liberties with this character in fleshing out her personality. The only things he had to work with was the knowledge that she was the kenel-master, and that she also had magmin's as pets/friends? This gave him the idea of having her treat them as pets, and also give characters pet names (similar to how Yachiru from Bleach does it), especially in light of the fact that her name is also "childlike". In fact, the DM almost made Lyzzie a child. |

I have a bard who was actually taken from a random encounter we had with bandits in the trip to Waterdeep from Hoard of the Dragon queen (that took a long time for us). We were ambushed by bandits and we kept trying to take survivors. We had one really knew player who would race around killing people off we had purposely just knocked out. Finally however one guy got a lucky break and hit down the wayward paert member. On the spur of the moment as we were talking to him the DM called him Kesh and he say he wasnt really with the rest of the bandits but they took him along for Morale (it was a new dm). I took up on that and developed Kesh into a DM credit Bard who really just likes books and stuff and is more or less a coward, but tends to rub people up the wrong way. |

| #6TyranthraxusAug 06, 2015 1:09:02 | Mirtek: I dont think Kossuth is listed in a God in the PHB at all. Im not sure any of the Elemental Lords are. |
| #7KalaniAug 06, 2015 1:16:08 | I like the idea of Lathander - and going Light Cleric. It would be interesting to roleplay her desire to cast the fire spells (and burn things), but her reluctance to give in to temptation. I could see Lathander giving her the Light Domain as an effort to test her resolve: Here is fire to tempt you. Do you resist? Do you learn to use fire to aid the helpless or only to destroy?

| #8AinulindalionAug 06, 2015 10:30:55 | While not mechanically optimized, I would give her some ranger levels with beastmaster so she can have a doggie again. Maybe make her favored enemies as elementals.
Obviously, she needs to fall back into arcane power if she fails. I think the best option there might be Fiend Warlock to represent the temptation, particularly as it gives many of the same fire spells. She could go Chain and have a dog familiar, too.
Cleric/Ranger obviously requires somewhat less MAD than a Cleric/Warlock, but I've seen a very effective Cleric/Warlock before.
Alternatively, she could become a Wild Magic Sorcerer as she struggles to contain her power.
Another story option could be to have her choose to focus on animals and become a nature cleric. |
| #9KalaniAug 06, 2015 11:29:10 | Nature cleric could work as well, although I do like the synergy with Lathander (light). |
