Obviously, he's looking to conquer the Trollclaw Ford and looking for advice on how to accomplish this. I think the best way is to send the goblin horde to Baldur's Gate to occupy the adventurers there -- they're always looking to get out of the city for a little mayhem, and if you don't keep them occupied they'll cause you endless problems later. Send a party into the ruins of Dragonspear Castle and make a deal with the devils there for magical support. After that, it should be pretty easy to take the hamlet, assuming anyone's reoccupied it.

 

Heck, if you succeed in the first two parts, I'd take Daggerford!

From what I've read Wotc is going back old school on D&D and making magic hard to find and acquire.  There are optional rules that let players source out a magic item by using downtime days.  Also IMO the items that are handed out during expeditions are useful the last session I played DDEX1-8 I got an item extremely useful to my Rogue. I personally liked the old days where finding an item in a pile of treasure was hard to come by,
