Tokens and AL

Hi,

Recently I was involved in a kickstarter for a service which involved the creation of a lot of new art for gaming tokens. It was by the guy that runs www.gamemash.com

I found out about it from a friend (who didnt actually end up going on it) and looked into it trying to find some reviews.. it was actually hard to get anything so I decided to get in on it in the hope it was a good product.

I received them the other day and they are small circular tokens (very strong) on a magnet (w/ a felt option). The artwork is pretty great and you can choose background colors /themes etc.

Now the reason Im posting this stuff here is that they are actually doing tokens specifically for the modules released so far. They have a collection for Hoard, Rise and Princes (and Lost mine /eventually Rage). I actually put them to good use in Dues for the Dead last Saturday and will be using them a lot for my upcoming Expeditions and my current Princes game.

(They are certainly a lot easier to carry around than traditional minis and the variation is quite good.)

I use Miniatures for the pcs in my game and exclusively tokens and pawns for the bad guys (Im still very much a mini based person for combat).

Have just ordered some more but thought some people in here might get a use out of them too .

I should note that while the range is great, not EVERY monster is covered. They are adding more all the time so its worth a visit every now and then to see how things are.

60 cents each seems like a bit much for only tokens.

Let me rephrase.... it may be a reasonable price compared to their costs and time.  It just isn't a reasonable price for me for 'just' tokens.

It is nice to get them numbered, and to get the exact creatures you want, so there is that.

Also, the only options I saw were for magnets or magnets with felt.  What are the magnets for?

If I could get them cheaper (no magnets, maybe no felt...), then it might be worthwhile.  Even if I had to buy X amount to get the lower price. (I did not see any volume discount listed.)

What I've been using that work very well are:.

  • A box of 1" washers
  • Stickers (Avery mailing labels work really well)
  • Google Image Search

I have some which are adventure specific, and some that are more generic.   (I also keep some blank white ones for players who don't have minis, they simply write their character's name on it with a Sharpie)
