| #1AndrewJOMay 20, 2015 1:35:07 | What are the rules for trading magic items? |
| #2SkerritMay 20, 2015 5:46:17 | You and whomever you are trading with need magic items for which you have certificates (rather than just listed on your logsheet). The certificates need have open spaces on their trade logs (each tradable cert can only be traded twice). You trade items of equal rarity on a one-for one basis. You cannot trade items of different rarity. |
| #3Arlen1000May 21, 2015 10:39:12 | Greetings
I am inviolved in a weekly campaign of PoTA - and was the recipient of a magic item - is there anywhere I can look up the description of the item - trying not to spoil anything so I am being purposefully vague. I googled the name of the item and nothing was found, so I believe this is one of those Items that is only in the adventure book. I recieved a description from the DM but I failed to copy everything down - shame on me - so I am attempting to get information.
Thanks |
| #4KalaniMay 21, 2015 11:06:37 | It depends on the item. Some items are detailed in the Dungeon Master's Guide. Other items (unique to the adventure) are described in the adventure itself. For example, the silent dagger is only described in the chapter it is found in, but the driftglobe is found in the DMG. Other items (such as the elemental weapons) are described in the magic item appendix in the back of the hardcover. |
| #5Arlen1000May 21, 2015 13:44:23 | Thank you for responding Kalani -
The reason I am asking is because there is a certain flaw to my personality this item bestows when I use it - I need to see what the flaw is and understand it so I can incorporate the flaw in my play. |
| #6KalaniMay 21, 2015 13:48:41 | Sounds like you got one of the 4 elemental weapons used by the prophets. They are found in the back of the hardcover Princes of the Apocalypse. |
| #7PauperMay 21, 2015 13:50:32 | If Kalani is correct, and I suspect she is, be sure to check with your DM before buying or getting ahold of a copy of the adventure -- some DMs do not react well if they find a player has had access to adventure material before actually playing through that material.

| #8Arlen1000May 21, 2015 14:07:18 | exactly the last post - One of our players bought the book and my DM "strongly discouraged" and "chastised" the player because the player would pull the book out to "spoil" the session. so I guess ill have to wait til next session to get the info - shame on me for not writing it all down. |
| #9Arlen1000May 21, 2015 14:08:05 | and yes - it is an "elemental" weapon - Ironfang |
| #10KalaniMay 21, 2015 14:12:27 |
|
| #11AinulindalionMay 21, 2015 14:11:57 | Ironfang grants the following:
Show Flaw. Ironfang heightens its wielder's destructive nature. While attuned to the weapon, you gain the following flaw: "I like to break things and cause ruin." |
| #12Arlen1000May 21, 2015 14:13:42 | The same person who bought the book tried to take the item. He plays an archer archtype - and we tried to explain to him that it is not a dex based item and he STILL wanted it. Nearly had some heated words with him. I play a "sword and board" paladin and it was perfect for my char. I actually told him if he did not use the item every round i would throw things at him. |
| #13KalaniMay 21, 2015 14:13:50 | Keep in mind that these flaws do not grant players authority to be disruptive at the table. You must weigh up your characters actions while under the effects of this flaw, and find a way to keep it balanced with the story itself... Breaking down doors (instead of picking locks), or smashing enemy weapons is a good example of things that can be done. Smashing everything and anything - not so much. |

|
| #15KalaniMay 21, 2015 14:17:40 | If a player did that, I would consider that disruptive behavior myself. |
| #16Arlen1000May 21, 2015 14:19:34 |
|
| #17KalaniMay 21, 2015 14:23:01 | Yep definitely, as is carrying around random stuff that you can smash when you feel the urge; or standing there clenching and unclenching your fists in frustration when you have nothing to hulk smash. |
| #18AinulindalionMay 21, 2015 14:27:01 | While not strictly AL legal (as you can't buy things not in the PHB), see if your DM will let you buy (or find) a collection of china plates (if found, not sellable) for smashing purposes. You can also frisbee throw them as improvised weapons for a satisifying crashysmashy sound.
You'd probably need to go to a big town at a minimum for that purchase, though. |
| #19Arlen1000May 21, 2015 14:31:43 | Thanks for the assistance Kalani and Ainu.... why do I get the urge to say" bless you" when I see the whole name? It should be interesting to RP this. |
