| #1AfetJun 08, 2015 9:33:17 | Hi, all. I've not been able to find a map of Mulmaster that is updated for current clack (1491 DR), which would include the walled Zhent guetto, and the location of the various places mentioned in the State of Mulmaster article and the Elemental Evil adventures. I have a 2E map circa (1370 DR). Has Wizards or anyone else produced such a map? Thanks, Afet |
| #2SkerritJun 08, 2015 16:07:24 | No official map has been made.

| #9NevvurJun 11, 2015 13:31:02 | Afet, I started work on an updated map as well. Haven't done much yet, just slapped the ghettos from the second map onto the first, and made the entire image higher contrast. Not going for pro-quality work here, but you're welcome to build on what I've started if you find it useful.

I'm still gathering notes for notable locations. in the expeditions modules and other AL documents. This would be a good thread for us (and others) to compile our notes.
Further indication that the 3e map is what the 5e writers referenced, regarding the compass direction... From the State of Mulmaster:
A shrine to Lathander rests atop a hill near the south side of Southroad Keep where the rays of the sun first rise over the shadowed walls of the City. This untended shrine is frequented by the poor asking for the blessings of Lathander to shine upon them, as well as those leaving the City and traveling south.
The direction of the rising sun is another clue.

It'll be interesting to see how this map is updated once the full events of DDEX2 get included.

| #11AfetJun 15, 2015 14:03:38 | I just updated the the updated map. I added the House of Suffering (#22) hospice run by priests of Ilmater in the southeast, near the Southroad keep, and the Culkin Manor (#21) northeast of the Tower of Arcane Might in the noble's neighborhood.
Any comments, corrections or suggestions for relocating elements are welcome. Cheers, Afet. |

| #13NevvurJun 15, 2015 21:47:12 | House of Suffering: "a rear door exits into a narrow alley a mere five feet away from the city wall " -- this should be moved to the very southeast corner.
The Wave and Wink is a location in DDEX2-5 which is marked on the original colored map, and would be an easy addition to this updated map.
DDEX2-1: Stoe Manor is just north of the Saj Estate
and
Walking from the "Saj Estate to the Thayan Embassy is fairly short, with most of the route through the safer parts of the city. The route passes through an open plaza where common tradespeople and farmers are allowed to sell their wares"
|
| #14NevvurJun 15, 2015 22:18:14 | And a few taverns...
DDEX2-1:
The Leaning Boot : mistakingly called the Black Blade and Bloody Boar tavern (which appears in ddex2-4) in the 2-1 module. The Leaning Boot goes anywhere in the docks area near as I can tell, "in the basement of a dockside tallhouse"
DDEX 2-3:
Rusty Chock Tavern -- anywhere in the docks, small building, "one of dozens of small bars and inns that serve the lowest caste of sailors who frequent Mulmaster on their journeys across the Moonsea."
DDEX2-4:
Black Blade and Bloody Boar Tavern = "located in a web of squalid streets, east of the lighthouse" |

| #16NevvurJun 22, 2015 8:54:19 | Suggesting relocations:
I would move the Wave and Wink two buildings to the right, . It is 80x125 feet in dimension according to the map in ddex2-5, more of a rectangle than a square shape. Hard to be sure which of these buildings the W&W should be given the marker locations on the official map, but the House of Suffering is 30x50 feet, so consider the relative size and dimensions of the buildings as they appear on the official map.
High House of Hurting/Temple of Loviatar is given as 6) on the second official map you posted, southwest of the Oxpit. In State of Mulmaster, when the High House of Hurting is described as taking the place of the Palace of Revels beneath the Tower of the Wyrm, they refer to taking over the type of services offered, not the actual location. The Palace of Revels (called the House of Revels in Mysteries of the Moonsea) is literally underground, beneath the tower of the wyrm, not beneath as in south, and has been sealed off anyway.
See below on the Smoke Shop for clues about relocating the House Built on Gold and Gate of Good Fortune.
DDEX2-5
Ironheart Gallery: there's really no indication where in the city this should go. It was a former display hall for Gos family forged weapons and armor. It is a described as a long narrow building. I recommend somewhere in the middle-upper class area. Best candidate IMO is along the road heading S-SE from Saj Estate. There's two rectangular buildings side by side, with a lot of space surrounding them, I'd place it as the one on the right.
Glassblowers Shop: Hard call. It's supposed to be adjacent to the water, crashing waves are supposed to be audible from the location (i.e. not in the more contained and calmer docks area), and there are Talos worshippers gathered around the bonfire the owner builds. All indications its in the vicinity of the Shrine of Talos (13). In the 100 years since the last official map, additional structures have probably been raised outside the walls north of Storm Gate. I would add a dozen or so small buildings along the road and include the glassblower shop among them.
DDEX2-6
Wicked Tart: "a cafe called the Wicked Tart, across from the High House of Hurting, the temple of Loviatar." It's a small building with a large patio for outdoor seating.
Caramitru Manor: near southroad keep, larger than most of the buildings surrounding it
Usilie Rostik's Smoke Shoppe: is located half way between the Gate of Good Fortune (temple of Tymora and casino) and the House Built on Gold (temple of Waukeen and bank), in full view of the Tower of Blades. "If the characters cause trouble, he calls for the Watch. Given the neighborhood, they arrive quickly to evict the troublemakers." Good indication the smoke shoppe, and the other buildings are all much closer to the Tower of Blades.
(The area around Southroad Keep is described as dominated by government buildings and houses to accomodate government officials, for what that's worth)
Chapter House of the Yellow Rose:
"Thylius was shopping around for property somewhere on the edges of the city." "Located in a wealthy, residential part of Mulmaster, the Chapter House is a walled mansion set back from the road with a handful of trees partially—but not completely—obscuring the view."
The yard inside the wall is about 200x300 feet, with an 80x80 foot building in the middle. I would place it as one of the very northwest buildings, and assume the black rectangle on the map is indicative of the yard surrounding the comparatively small structure.

| #17NevvurJun 20, 2015 11:53:37 | Weird, my last post didn't go through... anyway, short version --
No significant landmarks in ddex2-7 or 2-8 to add to the list. ddex2-9: The Grey Oyster -- "a fish restaurant in the harbor." It caters mostly to middle/upper class diners, so probably appears in the north or northeast docks area.
That catches us up on all the expeditions released so far. I'll be back with more landmarks as they appear in later modules. I'd like to see a higher resolution, higher contrast version of the map that sharpens the building edges and cleans up the shaded alley artifacts -- basically what I was doing on the link I posted earlier. Afet, if that sounds like something you're up to handling, I'll leave it to you. Scouring the texts for locations has been a long process already. If you haven't the time or interest, I'll get around to doing it sooner or later, starting with the most recent version of the updated map you post. |
| #18NevvurJun 20, 2015 17:27:53 | a couple other locations I forgot from my notes
ddex2-2: ruined temple of cyric -- in the zhent ghetto. Nothing more specific, though the module refers to an alley behind it, where a body was supposed to dumped in a trash midden.
ddex2-5: Zhent Market "an abandoned warehouse in the middle of the Zhent ghetto" probably right around where you dropped the number 17 |
| #19NevvurJun 22, 2015 23:42:13 | And a quick note Afet... I browsed through the other images you posted on photobucket. You do some awesome map/mini models! Loved the airship! |
