Is the titled featue allowed in AL games?  I have a player who basically wants to walk into any role-play situation and demand all information be given to him.  He expects to get away with it since the feature says people are afraid of him, with no check required, and won't report him to authorities.  I don't know how to deal with this because it essentially derails all RP of the expeditions I'm running.

Ever heard the song "Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown?"  That is what happens when you think you are the baddest man in the whole damned town. You discover that you are WRONG, the hard way. There is always someone tougher, sneakier and more ruthless than you. It is just a matter of time before you meet them.

The best thing to remember is that that ability doesn't give him carte blanche to do anything he wants without repercussions.  All it does is effectively make people think twice about getting involved in some way.  People who would definitely avoid that sort of confrotation to begin with will still avoid it, and people that steadfastly won't let something like that slide will still not let it slide.  People that are kind of on the edge about the situation might give pause, however.

One of my guys has the same Background Trait; his backstory is that he works on a privateer vessel that is contracted by the Lord's Alliance to take care of "opposition" ships as needed.  As a privateer, technically, the stuff he does is legal (or, at the very least, he has the authority to do), so as far as he (and the Lords) are concerned, he's "one of the good guys."  Of course, the crew and mercantile interests of the ships he's worked against in the past seldom see that fine distinction...

I’d say it still requires an Intimidation check. Like DeathMutantLives said, there’s always someone tougher. Even if it's not the person being intimidated, it might be their master or an ally.

Looking at Bad Reputation, it doesn’t say anything about automatically getting information, just getting away with minor criminal infractions.

The thing about fear is that it leads to unreliable information. If this guy wants to be feared so much, that's not a problem. People react to fear differently, including (but not limited to) just sitting and crying instead of talking, and saying whatever the person wants to hear (which means it's likely lies).

Fight or Flight might also be a problem. The NPC in question might just bolt or attack because he's afraid.

I'm not saying that you should thwart him all the time, but don't let the player bully you through the background. Also, if you are going to be like that a lot at the table, there's only so much that other people will put up with it.

Thanks everyone for the responses.  I got my primary answer which is that it is allowed and a lot of good advice here on how to deal with it.
