When can we make this legal for AL play?

Specifically, the class options at the end?

I feel like 'never', probably, but gotta ask.

Yep, Unearthed Arcana is not legal for AL play. Any Unearthed Arcana articles that would be made legal would (likely) be specifically mentioned in the ALPG.

With that said, the article is a great resource for DMs running home games, because it gives a succinct 'design reason' for the major abilities in the main classes. But yeah, I wouldn't expect this to be added to AL any more than the eladrin from the DMG.

(Edit: If anyone wants to see my home-brewed 5E Factotum that I put together as part of a Ravenloft conversion, I can post that.)

Firstly, I completely missed that this was a UA article.  Given that the suggestions aren't playtest material, unlike the previous UA articles, that's not a huge surprise.

Second, there is no valid reasoning for not including things such as the Eladrin, Aassimir (+spelling), Death Domain, Spell-less Ranger, and Favored Soul Sorcerer, which are specifically presented as balanced options as examples of how to modify and create new features.

I get that they aren't legal for AL play.  I'm just not sure why they aren't.

UA articles are not run past the Admins so we don't know they are coming. All we know is that the content in them will not have been playtested and may often stretch or break the boundries of the game (or maybe they won't). Since the Admins know nothing about what's coming, we can't preemptively add them to the allowed rules. We never add anything to an allowed rules set mid-season except by special certificates that we give out at special shows or as rewards. I can't say something from a UA article will never show up in the campaign, but they will never show up right when they are released.

I think the spell-less Ranger has a couple of issues that would make me leery of it:
Gaining Fighting Style+Battlemaster in 2 levels makes for a very strong dip.
Poultice seems poorly defined for an AL environment. Do you get that hour by waking up before everyone else? What if the DM doesn't think the mod lets you have an hour? What if the DM doesn't think there's the right natural environment to let you find stuff?

I'm pretty sure almost every Sorclock will want to switch from Draconic to Favored Soul for the domain spells and better armor. Wild Mages would become even rarer than they are now.

However, these UA options still lack the finishing touches that published materials get. Hopefully, that is the fate of these subclasses, so we can see unrestricted access to them in AL use. Until then, Antonius Stark will remain in the concept folder.
