| #1roivasAug 18, 2009 8:43:46 | http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20090814 "January starts off with 4th Edition's exploration of the Underdark, as well as a new player-focused product, a 32-page book dedicated to playing dragonborn (with the next such book coming in June, for playing tieflings)." When did 32 pages constitute a book? Is this including art? Why would anyone pay for this leaflet on one of the worst additions to the core race? Okay, the fact that I don't like Dragonborn aside, a book that promises 32 whole pages of roleplaying fun simply isn't worth it in my mind. I'm hoping this is a typo and they forgot to add a zero at the end of that number. |
| #2cadfanAug 18, 2009 9:24:28 | Your opinion is silly. It is silly to complain about a book of X pages not being "worth it" without looking at the price, because page count without price point tells us nothing about value. Its silly to complain about a book of any number of pages not being "worth it" because books are not like rice or corn which are valued strictly on bulk weight. They probably considered making large books like they did in 3e (races of the wild, etc), and decided against it in favor of making multiple small books on one race each. |
| #3mrmythAug 18, 2009 9:24:43 | There are plenty who like Dragonborn. Tossing out 10 bucks for a short, focused softcover on the race might seem a worthwhile deal for them. I kinda like the idea - not worrying about trying to cram a full book of info on them, and keeping it focused. The price is, sure, comparatively more than it is for the content in the hardback books - but at the same time, is a low enough individual price tag that it might be easier for some to drop the cash on. ~shrug~ If it is a terrible idea, people won't buy it. If they do buy it, there is obviously an interest, and WotC will release more of them. That's how it goes. |
| #4ambulacetusAug 18, 2009 9:35:17 | While these aren't the most exciting products for me, they could be interesting. If they retail for $10 or so (and I can't see them being much more expensive) they will probably sell on Amazon for $6 - $8. At that price they might be worth adding to an order of a $20 book just to get the total order over $25 for free shipping. |
| #5greatfritoAug 18, 2009 9:36:09 | I don't mind it at all, if those 32 pages of content are good pages of content. My college gaming buddies who bought "Races of..." books rarely got 32 pages of use out of those books, for double (and change) the price. EDIT: While these aren't the most exciting products for me, they could be interesting. If they retail for $10 or so (and I can't see them being much more expensive) they will probably sell on Amazon for $6 - $8. At that price they might be worth adding to an order of a $20 book just to get the total order over $25 for free shipping. Hey, that's an awesome point as well. |
| #6BelorinAug 18, 2009 10:55:44 | This is only the first of a series of "Race" books, next one is the Tiefling. There will also be a similar series depicting a ready to use adventure locations, the first of which will be "Hammerfast - a Dwarven Outpost Adventure Site." Book info; Format: Trade Paperback Trim: 8-1/4” x 10-7/8” Pages: 32 Price: $9.95/$12.95 CAN Bel |
| #7ggroyAug 18, 2009 11:02:53 | At $10 per copy (or less), WotC is probably hoping that these 32 page "races" books will become an "impulse buy" item. Personally for me, an impulse buy these days is anything less than $10 bucks (give or take a dollar or two). |
| #8BelorinAug 28, 2009 5:29:07 | The second location book is Vor Ruroth: Tiefling Ruins, same format.
|
| #9Arawn76Aug 28, 2009 15:05:52 | Will be interesting to see if they can match my Goodman book |
| #10roivasAug 28, 2009 15:58:37 | Okay, you kids enjoy your pamphlet. I'll just remain silly and expect the supplements to take longer than a weekend to write. |

| #12OrcbossAug 28, 2009 19:55:01 | I don't think I'll pick it up, but price really isn't an issue. The price per page isn't too out of line with other small stuff. They sell 96 page adventures for $25. |
| #13wyattsalazarAug 29, 2009 1:45:09 | The format is of interest to me even if the content probably won't be. Okay, you kids enjoy your pamphlet. I'll just remain silly and expect the supplements to take longer than a weekend to write. The level of maturity here is staggering.

Still seems like it would be at least $14.99. |
| #15Dragon9Aug 30, 2009 14:22:14 | When did 32 pages constitute a book? Definition of 'Book': "a written or printed work of fiction or nonfiction, usually on sheets of paper fastened or bound together within covers." So it would seem that 32 pages have constituted a book since the beginning of human printing. Put 1 page between covers and it's a book. Fold it on it's own and it's a leaflet. |
| #16rutherfordrAug 30, 2009 15:08:23 | No problem -- I'll buy them as soon as they come out. I don't want or need a 320-page book about the Dragonborn, 32 pages is just fine. |
| #17cadfanAug 30, 2009 15:53:40 | Okay, you kids enjoy your pamphlet. I'll just remain silly and expect the supplements to take longer than a weekend to write. Do you apply this logic to other purchases? "NO! I shall not buy this single candy bar! I shall not be mollified with such a small and tawdry product! Instead I shall buy this BOX of candy bars, that contains FIVE assorted candy bars! It is true that one candy bar contains accursed coconut, that wretch of the confectionary world, and another contains dread walnuts, to which I have an allergy most deathly. But it is worth it, for I make all purchasing decisions purely on physical mass! And five candy bars are most assuredly more massive than one! What's that you say? A box if SIX candy bars is available in the shop next door?? Away!" |

This was full of ridiculous amounts of win. |
| #19thescalesoffateAug 31, 2009 4:58:02 | Edit: What the heck? Stupid thing quoted the wrong post. |
| #20hellfyreAug 31, 2009 7:14:23 | Count me in as another who's interested in the book (as well as the Tiefling one that may come out later). |
| #21Nai_CalusAug 31, 2009 7:20:57 | I have no interest whatsoever in the Dragonborn or Tiefling books as I can't stand either, but I hope there'll be an Eladrin one. ....And that it won't come out six months after the tiefling one like the tiefling one is coming after the Dragonborn one. o_O |
| #22Duke5150Aug 31, 2009 7:30:14 | I'm a D&D consumer. I'll purchase the race books when I can. They sound interesting and I'm a fan of "more info". 10 bucks for 32 pages is perfect. |
