4e DDO?

I was just curious if DDO is going to get upgraded to 4e? Since 4e is heavily influenced by MMORPGs it would seem like the logical direction to take DDO. I was just curious if it was going to get updated and refreshed or with the advent of the DDI Game Table do they plan on letting it slowly rot away (like so many other D&D product spin-offs)?

Note: Please forgive if this seems not quite on topic, but no other forum seemed to be the place to post this question...and nothing is said about this on the barely living DDO forums.

Hmm. A game using the 4e ruleset would be quite cool but I'd prefer something in the vein of Baldurs gate or RToEE.

Not a huge fan of MMORPG's myself. The rare occasion I've tried one I've found it difficult to immerse myself in the character or setting when playing with characters named spanky monkey.

YMMV

It'd be hard to program properly, 4E is much better suited to tabletop. They'd have to cut out or adapt a lot of material to fit the game into a typical MORPG template.

Then again the Game table through DDI might negate some of the need for a MORPG based on 4E.

Why would it be hard to impliment? WoW is my only MMORPG experience, but it seems easy enough to have your at-wills have a 6 second cooldown, your encounters have a 5 minute cooldown (that doesn't start until combat is over; potions work this way in WoW now, with a 1 minute cooldown that doesn't start till combat is over), and your dailies would have like an hour cooldown or something.

All taht stuff would work, but 4e's heavy focus on manuevering and battle placement makes implementing it as an MMO really difficult. All those power that include "shift X squares", the idea of flanking, all the short range teleportation powers, the push/slide power, all are more effective in a tabletop, turn-based strategy game.

Actually, the tabetop parts unnecessary, A turn based strategy game online could work... which is pretty similiar to what their doing on DDI.

All you have to do for a shift or slide effect in a real time MMO is as you activate the power, you have a quick prompt that requires the user to imput a direction command swiftly. Ideally, it would alsmost be as intuitive as selecting a primary target of a power, or moving your character normally.

Flanking could be solved like how the rogue is done in WoW. Be behind someone.

Push/Pull already work, slide would have to be altered.

Mostly though, 4e seems to be designed around turn based combat. Which is problematic in a real time environment.

Barely living DDO forums? HARDLY.

However, the development team has said that they will not be converting to the 4e ruleset for now. They might add some of the ideas presented with the new ruleset, but they haven't chosen to do so yet.
