When 4e first appeared I thought about how easily it could be modified to bring back the Marvel Super Heroes rgp.  Now with the previews of Gamma World I'm even more convinced that it would be very do-able.  Is there any interest, besides mine, out there about this?

In general, because I like superhero games, yes.
Specifically the Marvel Universe?  Not after the way the current editorial regime has taken a colossal dump all over it.

While I'm sure it would work (I know I'd probably look at it and try to run a game if they released it) I am with Salla on it.  Marvel right now doesn't seem to care about the fans or characters.

But there is hope!  DC Adventures and the soon to release 3rd ed Mutants and Masterminds, can help you greatly.

DC Adventures is kind of the prerelease/campaign setting for 3rd ed M&M but it is fun.  Granted I am more of a DC fan to begin with, but still you can easily do Marvel with it.

I just mentioned Marvel Super Heroes because I remember playing it in junior high.  I haven't followed much in the Marvel Universe since the mid-nineties.  WotC could easily just do a generic superhero game kind of like City of Heroes.  Then you could make your own favorite Marvel or DC, or any other, superhero.  The plug and play nature of 4e makes such customability fairly simple.  There could be several different classes: a blaster, a scrapper, a tank, etc.  These would inform the primary abilities and attacks.  A broader set of utility powers/abilities could introduce secondary themes to the characters.  Finally a set of feats could tweak the characters even more.

Yep. GW-like supers would be wicked!
It's a pity my players don't like supers.

I thought a Superhero game from Gamma World was a good idea.

I don't think it would be so good for Marvel Comics style campaign.

My first thought at this thread are to be reminded how disappointed I was, and to a lesser degree still am, that the d20 Modern product line was canceled before this could be released.  It's still something of a sore spot for me, and the only glaring whole in what I still find to be a competent and versatile system.  Oh well.

Anyway, the potential for a superheroes campaign built on 4e is something I'd be interested to see, but I won't go getting my hopes up or start singing any petitions (unless it was for the long overdue release of this lost product that fell through cracks).

I agree that we probably will never see an official 4e Superhero rpg.  So with that in mind, those of us interested in it are left to homebrew something.  What would be possible classes?

Blaster - any hero who fights at range (ex. Marvel - Cyclops, Jean Grey, Hawkeye, etc.; DC - Firestorm, Green Arrow, etc.)

Tank - any hero who has great strength and resilience and fights primarily at close range (ex. Marvel - Hulk, Juggernaut, Colossus, etc.;  DC - Superman, Wonder Woman, etc.)

Scrapper - any hero who is not as resilient as a tank but is more mobile and fights primarily at close range  (ex. Marvel - Wolverine, etc.  DC - Flash, etc.)

It might be best to do as hybrids.  Heroes can choose a primary and secondary class from any available class.

Ex.  Iron Man would choose Blaster as primary and Tank or Scrapper as secondary.
Batman would choose Scrapper as primary and Blaster as secondary.
Hulk would choose Tank as primary and Tank as secondary.

What other classes would be archetypical?  Is there a better system to assign classes?  What do ya'll think?

I think GW style would work the best. Primary and secondary origin, giving traits and starting powers. Plus on top of them some power cards (Alfa-mutations in GW) and maybe some gadgets (Omega-tech).
And instead of going heroic tier only, go for epic tier or at least paragon.
I think it would work better than standart D&D4E.

I wanted to now This: CHARACTER ORIGIN TABLE
1  Android
2  Cockroach
3  Doppelganger
4  Electrokinetic
5  Empath
6  Felinoid
7  Giant
8  Gravity Controller
9  Hawkoid
10 Hypercognitive
11 Mind Breaker
12 Mind Coercer
13 Plant
14 Pyrokinetic
15 Radioactive
16 Rat Swarm
17 Seismic
18 Speedster
19 Telekinetic
20 Yeti

AND the 21 is if you roll doubles. Has it Augmented? or something like that.

So for Superheroes I'd assume that you rolled doubles (so you'd be human) and then choose a power, or roll if you aren't interested is a specific power.

If you what the mosterous hero look just Roll as in GW. :-)

I seem to remember that they had a lot of artwork already done for this.
But a big RICH company like WotC doesn't need to recycle.

Good name though.

There could also be themes or origins along the lines of those introduced in Dark Sun.

Human theme - you have trained yourself to physical perfection (Captain America, Batman, etc)

Mutant theme - you have a genetic anomaly that grants you superhuman abilities (Woverine, Storm, etc.)

Accident theme - you were granted superhuman abilities as the result of an accident (Spider-Man, Hulk, etc)

Technology theme - you have used technology to grant yourself superhuman abilities (Iron Man, Cyborg, etc.)

Otherworldly theme - you are not from earth and possess abilities beyond those of mortals (Thor, Superman, etc.)

Combine these with primary and secondary classes to construct your basic hero.  Your basic suite of powers would also be determined by these choices.

Action points would work, but maybe they should be replace or supplemented with Heroic Effort.  Heroic Effort would allow the hero to do something...heroic.  They could either deal extreme damage, spectacular movement, or some combination of the two.

Any other thoughts?

a big part of wwhy i don't believe that wizards will ever do a Marvel Based RPG is due to licensing fees.
