#1 Bheinn Aug 31, 2014 19:22:54	once upon a time... long ago in a galaxy far far away there was a company called TSR.  They are gone now.  it is sad. however, a new entity holds the reins of this great empire and is steering the vessel.  Back then, TSR created the Second Edition Core Rules software and it was good.  The started creating content for it and it was good.  then it all went out the window.  Support stopped.  The company changed hands and nothing of the sort has been tried since.   Why is this?  The tin foil hat wearers want to say that it's because WotC is too wrapped up in releasing new editions every 3 - 5 years just to keep creating demand for new content a la iPhone marketing ploy... so devoting time and and resources into development of software would be a waste.   I thoroughly enjoyed the software and believe such an endeavor would be well worth the investment.  Has there been any consideration into this... beyond a simple "Hey, how about like what was done before?" and then shoot it down before even leaves alpha testing starts... much less the the post-it note / brainstorming on napkins stage.  Mobile phone apps for player characters, DM tools, etc.  One tool that comes to mind for iPhone, Libra Eorzea for the FFXIV:ARR mmo is a great app.  Albeit, users dont enter information but that isn't to say that functionality isn't possible for what could be created for this venue.   Any genuine input from WOTC would be great.  Non-employee input will be disregarded as drivel and met with disgust unless it's substantiated with official source material (including links for reference, etc).  Sorry but non-employee input always ends up being he said/she said nonsense and it downward spirals from there into epeen idiocy. hoing to cut that out immediately and just get reliable information from the get-go.   Cheers!

#3 IxidorRS Sep 02, 2014 7:25:49	We had the rules compendium and character builder in 4th. This were pretty good tools. They had some issues, but were pretty good. And we have Dungeonscape coming for 5th. Those that have beta access seem to like it. It appears to be pretty good.
#4 Grazel Sep 02, 2014 21:03:15	You'll want to check this out: http://www.dnddungeonscape.com/   We still don't have all the details but there will be abilities to do micro or macro transactions for content, and as it's built up will have at least some of the features of virtual table-tops as well. THis is being licensed via a 3rd party company (think WotC realized they don't have the talent and resources to develop things inhouse after the 2 limited and half-completed attempts during 4e).

#7 dafrca Sep 16, 2014 16:26:05	So based on the link given above this is an "on-line" tool that is being designed for use with tablets. Then based on their FAQ if they have time they might get around to doing a Windows version. :-(
#8 Undrhil Sep 17, 2014 8:51:13	Does no one remember the eTools from Code Monkeys for D&D 3.x?  Not the demo software they had with the 3.5 PHB, but the full software which was released later and had all of the data for .. well, I'm not sure if it was all of the books, but it was a lot of data.
#9 Webster Sep 18, 2014 18:07:27	I have that Core rules program, and it wasn't actually put out by TSR, but by another company that has gone out of business.
