A book like that I might look through once and then leave sitting on my shelf for months or years untouched - and that's not the kind of book I'm in to paying for anymore; has to be something that I reference while actually at the table playing the game in a typical session, like how I am in the Monster Manual (sometimes even two copies open) for monster stats during a battle, or opening the Player's Handbook to get details of a spell or level up a character. Even the Dungeon Master's Guide barely falls on the correct side of the line between "useful book I'm glad I bought because I reference it so much," and "waste of cash and shelf space," since I don't frequently reference it, but do like it on hand for magic items, treasure tables, poisons, and for the rare occasions that an environmental effect (whether something like quicksand, or the traits of a non-material plane) comes up. |

Detailed informations about the geography of Faerûn, a chronology or timeline, descriptions of the various faiths, how the life in the Realms work. The only few rules there should be in it should be about new items and weapons (even magic ones), and perhaps some new backgrounds. Everything else belongs to manuals like PHBs. |
| #5moonbeastMay 09, 2015 21:05:03 | I'd be perfectly OK if WotC released a PDF-only Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide. It does not need to be some expensive hardcover published book (which could cost the company too much money in terms of production costs, etc) and we know that WotC these days are a tiny skeleton crew with a limited budget (thanks to the parent company Hasbro). In the end, it will essentially be a lore book, detailing the Forgotten Realms setting as it stands in the 5th Edition era. So it's something that DMs will only read once or twice, and after that, will probably be shelved collecting dust. So a hardcover book would be an expensive waste. Releasing it as a paid PDF book makes sense. Keep the price reasonable, and the book will sell gangbusters (or to anyone that was ever interested in Faerun).
And then they could do the same with a future Eberron Campaign Guide, Dragonlance, etc. |

| #7DaeldilJul 03, 2015 11:48:14 | I'd like to see some detailled Forgotten Realms maps in the book as well. Something akin the trail map of the early DnD days. I understand some DM might like to have a mostly empty map that they can develop themselves. I prefer having a lot fo landmarks and places to see and go, small trails, ponds and lakes, ruins, etc... I find those inspiring when I have to build an adventure involving wilderness travels. And if I don't like them there I can remove them. Really, those are far easier to remove when unwanted than to create. On a huge map, blank space is definitely not as inspriing than a place called "crossroad monument" for instance. |
