the very first thing i can think of... bring back spells and remove the powers...
or at least for certain classes
Cleric is #1 for this change
seriously this completely changed the roleplaying for those who played clerics.  you are now no longer to even roleplay out the cleric completely. you are very limited (especially early on)  and the need for a balanced party has been removed slightly with the advent of 'Healing Surges'.

Arcane users would also benefit from this change return of this aspect to 30 years of gaming.
using random cantrips to ingeniusly finish the module was a classic

(ohh and not only did it done down spellcasters but it added complication to the basic fighting types which were quick and simple to roll-up for new players ...this isn't necessarily a bad thing in fact.  i may be quite acustomed to the added complication, but "think of the Newbies" or not...this part isn't my cheif concern...that is to nerfing of ALL spellcasting types)

So, now nobody has to play a healer, and you think that's a bad thing?  Players can play the classes they want.  That's a benefit, not a drawback.

The powers system is simple enough that the new players can jump in playing any class; the learning curve is not so varied as it was between boring 'you walk up to this guy and full attack' fighter and overpowered 'you destroy an encounter in a single round' wizards.

Oh, and if you look, arcane powers are called spells, so spells are still in the game.

nope... tried pathfinder....not as good as D&D even 4E is better than pathfinder....
not a troll either...not basing this on one site...
been trying for months to get back into D&D even if it was 4E...all im finding are sites set up for 4E and abandoned due to non-response...people who used to play religiously and have hung up their dice bags and no matter how much i plead them they won't come out of hiding.
even tried joining the LFRs campaign (i used to do the LG and the Ravens Bluff afterall) on the official website for LFR there are no posts for the Southeast, and only two all the way in CT for the Northeast...if you can find me ANYONE....who still plays D&D in VA....id be a happy man...heck ill even consider travelling several hours to a neihboring state if it means i can start playing again...
what happen to the D&D only Cons that would always be overbooked???

nobody CAN play a healer...they by removing the need for one they removed the desire to add a Cleric to your party

yes they are called spells....but they are severelly limited in comparison. thats my point...i miss the days where a player can rethink his daily spells depending on that (IC) mornings encounter

i understand the desire to simplify games for new players, but was it needed?? ive never encountered a player who stopped playing before they got it down because it was too complicated... besides the power system for fighters and barbarians makes it more complicated (at least starting out that is) so the new player doesn't have a simplier option to choose if he/she wanted to take it slow

Healing without a healer is VERY limited, to a select few class powers, and a second wind once an encounter for 1/4 of your hit points. That doesn't remove the need for a healer.

In addition, the cleric and other 'healer' classes have a variety of other powers to buff allies, so healing is no longer their ownly function.

Without the Warlord in my party, my group likely would have TPK'd by now.

And at this point, it's obvious you know nothing about 4e.  Clerics (along with warlords, shamans, artificers and bards) are healers.  Anybody can heal themselves with healing surges in a limited fashion (typically, you can only spend 1 per encounter through Second Wind, which uses your standard action), but a leader makes healing more efficient by restoring bonus HP with their spells, prayers, etc.

And with that said, since it's now abundantly clear that you know absolutely nothing of which you speak, you go on my ignore list and I move on.

i don't think people are reading this right....
although part of my desire for a new edition is lack of enthusiasim in my state for revised rules and gameplay methods.  my whole intention is not simly to bash 4E...like i stated I am willing to play any edition from Basic to 4E but 4E seems to have scared the players away ...

MY DESIRE... is to start thinking of the next edition now...if you rememeber
it took three years to go from 3.0 to 3.5   so if they want it to be so quick...time is now to start making a wishlist for 4.5 they have about a year and a half until its been three years
it took them 5 years to go from 3.5 to 4.0....it might be a tiny bit early to start thinking of 5.0 but i think it would be folly to not tell them what we want now...being ahead of the curve if it were
