Is ther more info on the fortune cards?

Will it be a new take on the RPGA cards?

Will it be like the Story cards? I remember a good number of card options from different publishers and for a number of systems.

Have you heard of the Twitter buffs in D&D Encounters? It's random stuff that happenes to your PC. Paizo is releasing something similar to it (paizo.com/store/gameAids/gameMasteryProd...   ). Apparently D&D Encounters will have some previews going on for it this fall.

Longreach: Had to check the Elminster one to see if it was legit. What's next? Elminster: A Fistful of Electrum? Tongue out

Edit: Also found some other novels on the horizon. Added.

At GenCon, they said they had plans for minis, but nothing definative yet. Perhaps they'll be another annual minis set a la Lords of Madness, perhaps a series of special non-collectible sets a la Beholders: Collector's Set, or something entirely different. It seems that WotC is really changing its presentation with all these boxed sets, so I'm guessing "something entirely different".

jr665: Stickied would be nice, but not entirely necessary yet.

Or perhaps they want to see how well tokens go over.  I know their on the edge about hard and soft cover books, so their probably on the edge about mini's and tokens.

Speaking as someone who (literally) has gallons of miniatures, I hope the tokens ideas goes off. I've had to spend thousands of dollars to get to where I am right now where I could get a mini for 98% of the monsters I run. If someone could spend $100 and get that level of coverage with representative tokens, I think a lot of young/poor DMs would take the plunge.

And that's not to say that they should abandon the minis. I see tokens as French's mustard and miniatures as Grey Poupon. You don't have to be rich to have mustard on your ham sandwich, but if you are, there are better condiments. For someone like myself, products like Orcus and the Beholders Set are exactly what I'm looking for.

You know, not everyone has thousands of dollars on their hands. Some people could afford, for instance, only the three basic books, 32 minis and two sets of tiles because of other expenses.

Exactly. So give the consumers an option between 32 minis and 320 tokens. Or like I said above:

My guess:  They will never exist.  We will have to peruse the previews of future "Heroes of" books to see if they have anything we are looking for.  If the concept of a book like "Arcane Power 2" survives intact, it will probably have a title like "Heroes of the Arcane".

I'm actually very pleased that the Nentir Vale Gazeteer is being dropped. Hopefully that means at some point in the future that we'll get a PoL Campaign book/boxed set. At the very least, it means the Nentir Vale won't be cast in amber yet and we'll have some more goodies in the future.

I believe what they said was that post-Essentials releases wouldn't focus just on stuff introduced in Essentials and the new products would support Essentials and pre-Essentials classes.

Nothing posted in the thread contradicts that.

I actually expect an Arcane Power 2, and no Player's Option: Heroes of Arcana.

As far as I'm concerned, Player's Option is just another way of distributing Player's Handbook-like material; not replacing the X Power series of expansion material.

I was using "Heroes of Shadow" as the basis of my speculation, as it is clearly one of the first of the post-Essentials 4E player books.  If they were reverting to the old nomenclature, I would think that this book would have either "Player's Handbook 4" or "Shadow Power" for its title.

The advantage of dropping numbers from the book titles is that people will not think that they need any particular prior books to get use out of the new book.  From a marketing point of view, the problem with a title like "Player's Handbook 3" is that a potential buyer will think he needs Player's Handbook 2 to make use of it (He probably does need the original Player's Handbook, but 2?  Not really.).

I have no clue what the sales were, but if Martial Power 2 sold then it would be crazy not to do it for all the powers.  Maybe it didn't sell well.  I wasn't keen on 1, 2 and 3 of everything but if the content was good I would keep getting them.

I also think you have a better chance of someone picking up a 2 or 3 book and then wanting the previous numbers than not getting it because it's a 2 or 3.  If the content is good, players will buy more books.

Streets of Shadow was suppose to have come out last April, but it got canceled.
However, some of the minis that they had already sculpted for Streets of Shadow made it into the Lords of Madness set.

I belive it's themes (like darksun's) and backgrounds.

At least that's what i heard before.  (They announced it, removed it, and now it's back).

Edit: Notic it says "Player Options" and not "Hero's of".  So i wouldn't expect classes.  Though this may be the equivilent of "heroic tier power".

From Critical Hits summary of the GenCon 2010 D&D New Products Seminar  :

Player’s Handbook: Champions of the Heroic Tier is a set of options, almost like Unearthed Arcana, for characters to pick from and DMs to choose to use in their games. Character themes (introduced in Dark Sun) will be here for core D&D characters, in addition to new options, new feats, and non-combat options like Blacksmith professions that don’t cost feats to acquire.

Everything I've read about DDM (including people like Peter Lee) suggests that the line was carried by RPG buyers, and that the people who played the actual game were the minority. And let's not discount global trends like rising price of oil (important component of plastic) and rising wages in China (homeland of WotC minis) to explain why miniatures production is ramping down.

The line may have been carried by RPG buyers, but the DDM Skirmish players did buy DDM figurines.  I have heard that one-third of all DDM buyers used them for Skirmish. If this is true, I believe the actual number of miniatures sold to Skirmish buyers may be closer to one-half, as Skirmish buyers often needed multiples for their warbands.  But let's say that it was just one-third.  That is still a large part of the customer base.  How many business can survive losing one-third of their customers?

The production cost has definitely gone up as the value of the dollar has gone down.  This becomes a double whammy as the cost of oil goes up, along with the exchange rate between the Dollar and Chinese Yuan.

The greatest hope for more DDM sets as I see it, is the success of the LoM set.  WotC did it right with this set moreso than the previous sets that featured visible miniatures.  Not only did this set feature some miniatures never before seen in the DDM line, it included miniatues that were Very Rare.  Choice miniatures became harder to collect and in turn I beleive more boosters will be opened in an effort to get these beauties.  I know many out there cannot stand the idea of the VRs.  But VRs could be the salvation of the line.

Lords of Madness IMHO is the best set since Bloodwar.  Thanks Peter and WotC for making this truly great set.  It has both utility in my RPG campaign and is fun to collect.

WOTC PLEASE LET US KNOW IF THERE WILL BE ANOHTER SET FOR US TO LOOK FORWARD TO.

This would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mazra

Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters suggests that 4th edition's combat assumptions were based on DDM warbands. In my D&D Encounters groups, there's a regular DDMer who perks up during each combat. As much as I hate when people say 4ed is a boardgame/tabletop game, it can appeal a lot to those demographics.

Lots of changes for the 2011 Product catalog. I don't know whether this is the result of error or a major change to WotC's publishing. Given WotC's offices are closed until the new year, we may not know until 2011. But feel free to look at it yourself and THEN run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Wow, D&D sales must really be struggling. Used to be that we got at least one interesting splat book every month, but now we get only Heroes of Shadow, Shadowfell and the monster book during the first half of 2011. If we even get them. I wouldn't be actually shocked if I saw an announcement to cease production of D&D in the near future. Fortunately, the CB and Essentials fiascoes have distanced me somewhat from D&D already so that I wouldn't be that dismayed anymore. I have pretty much resigned to using only the pre- September 2010 products anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised if big game companies discarded RPGs as unprofitable but there will always be new publications from small businesses and individual persons, at least as long as us who began playing before WoW are still around. It seems to me that computer games are the main culprit of the downhill of p&p RPGs. I have seen the trend worldwide and in my own country, Finland, where I haven't seen new groups composing of teenagers picking up the games as we did in the early nineties. Even the translation of games to Finnish has completely ceased, which is probably one reason why young people find the games inaccessible.

From the D&DI Content Calendar: D&D Experience, the upcoming convention in Indiana

Preview Material: No other show comes close to D&D Experience for preview material.  You will know about all the cool products lined up for 2011, even before the big box retailers. Many of the writers of these products, as well as brand managers, will be onsite to answer questions you may have about D&D and where it is going in 2011 and beyond.
The D&D Classic adventure this year for example will showcase
• Dungeon Tiles: Caverns of Icewind Dale,
• Player Options: Heroes of Shadow,
• and Monster Vault 2
(some of those do not come out until June 2011).

So nothing you dont already know. But these are just examples - meaning other releases are coming soon too.

I doubt it. It looks like they are going with a Heroes of the Fallen [insert interesting word here] format and straying away from the more easily understandable PHB[insert number of book here]...

I would agree with you, but it seems that the HoS is not truly a replacement for a PHB. There are no new classes in the thing, and it doesn't introduce a new power source.

so...what should Wizard's do when their out of power sources? If Ki doesn't exist (thankfully, if Asian gets a power source then I want a Stiff Upper Lip power source to.) Shadow could be done, but where do you go from there? Elemental seems redundant, and most of the fantasy archetypes are covered. Perhaps they'll expand out and start working on non-fantasy? I'm just curious where you think numbered PHs should fit into the scheme of things.

Oct 18 -   Legend of Drizzt Boardgame
Nov 15 -  Heroes of Feywild
Dec 20 - Dungeon Tiles:Shadowghast Manor

Given principal photography just started on Jan 17, I dont think the BOVD movie and its accompanying Book are going to make it this year since they said they are going to be released concurrently.

Where are you getting the dates from?

Drizzt game is on Amazon now with the October Release date.  (and remember Amazon is a much more accurate source of info then WOTC, it always features the cancellations and date moves long before WOTC announces them).   The other two dates are from Mike Mearls at D&D Experience, he said that Heroes of Feywild was coming out in November and the Tiles in December.  Since all WOTC game products come out on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, those are the dates for them.  Critical Hits among other places has the info from D&D Experience.

From EnWorld we have the fall WOTC catalog, which features the dates above plus is claiming BOVD will be released on December 20th as well though I still have a feeling that if they really are going to do concurrent releases for the movie and the book, thats not going to happen.

Eh. You could say that about any RPG, really. In 1978, could anyone have guessed D&D would have spawned things like Runepriests and Wardens? It's amazing to see what constant churn will give us.

I could see PHB-like books for Bio origins, Dark origins, and Psi origins. A series of adventures each focusing on one level. A campaign book for the Gamma Terra world, showing every square mile of the world from Australia to Stockholm. A flavour book for each Omega Tech faction, with monsters to fight from them and friendly origins. Gamma World Combat Tiles.

Sadly, I don't see people buying all of that.

About the dragons collector's set, I found this.

Basically, it says it'll be released on October 18th, and includes five dragons (the five chromatic), two of which are new sculpts, for $44.99.

No mention of the sizes, though, but I'm guessing large, or possibly huge.

You have the 2 dungeon tiles left for the year in two different catagories, if the letters O, C and D werent in charge today I probably wouldnt have noticed and  one of them goes away this month so you might not care.   I see in January we get the Haunted Map Pack which looks like it might be interesting 3 double sided 21" x 30" battle maps in the haunted temples theme for a retail price of $11.95

It's wishlisting at this point, but there is the assumption that there will be a boxed set for the Feywild, like the Shadowfell box. I assume they will do on for the Elemental Bock as well (Hint, hint WotC, City of Brass would be awesome!)

A day or two ago, I tried searching for 'Shadowbane' on the B&N site and I saw that it was indeed only being offered as a download for B&N's Nook e-book and then I also saw that B&N (at the moment) is only offering 'Bury Elminster Deep' as an e-book download.   So far, Amazon has not sent me any notice about a change in the status of my advance order for 'Bury Elminster Deep'.

Poster map packs?

Depending upon whether this becomes available as an e-book purchase or a regular book purchase (which I would favor), I might buy a couple copies.   One of my DM's has severe issues with document handling and storage because he will plop something on a random pile of paper and then forget where that random pile is.  [Not that I am any better in that regard;   I tend to make regular visits to the local OfficeMax for loose leaf binders (preferably the D-ring style!) as well as ample amounts of plastic sheet protectors.   I still have piles of things, all in loose leaf binders]

Thus, I tend to buy three or four copies of things;  one copy for my home archives and the rest for the DM and the group to use.
