| #1thaxApr 03, 2011 19:03:17 | If it is reprinted sometime in the future, will it be with the new Essentials builds for the classes that are being released through dragon, or just have the Errata and keep the same format as before? Will it have a designated "Reprint" or "Essentials printing" on the cover? |
| #2excalainenApr 03, 2011 19:11:06 | I think nobody outside WotC knows. I also believe that it is not going to be reprinted at all during 2011. Later, possibly. |
| #3Janx_14Apr 03, 2011 22:25:33 | With the PHB classes getting new write ups in Dragon, and Essentials being the "new core" or whatever, I don't see the PHB1 getting a reprint ever. That said, if they did, it'd probably be in the new essentials fluff-heavy format. The problem with that however, is the extra pages taken up by all that filler. However, since they dont need to print it as the core, it can probably replace most the rule sections with the extra fluff. Yay redundent placefiller fluff. |
| #4calronmoonflowerApr 03, 2011 23:23:53 | I've heard that the warlord essentials update in Dragon is available for all to download from WotC despite having the D&Di icon. |
| #5thaxApr 04, 2011 19:39:44 | actually, take a closer look. It doesn't have the DDi symbol by the article. |
| #6robertread3Apr 04, 2011 23:44:32 | reprinting PHB1 would be pointless at this stage. and no one at WOtC is pushing for it. and we would have all the rage boards about how they are changing and reselling us something we already baught and bla bla bla as to what it would have in the incredably unlikley chance they did go through with it, it would contain errated versions of the PHB1 classes and errated rules, since they already have essentials books for sale that have minimil errata (the only errata is changing powerstrike to a no action) so if they put those classes in the PHB, it would be selling 2 existing books as 1 book, witch compleatly makes no sense. so if a reprint happend it would contain the source material from the origional PHB1, essentials did not replace the classes in that book. and a 40$ book that is just 2 20$ books in one is not worth the amount of money it would cost to write, finalize, print and ship because it would bring in no new revnue. reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen |
| #7calronmoonflowerApr 05, 2011 1:38:09 | reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen A certain segment of posters would scream that they are charging for errata. |
| #8robertread3Apr 05, 2011 1:41:16 | reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen witch is why they would never try to sell it |
| #9Obvious_NinjaApr 05, 2011 8:55:47 | reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen So just to throw fuel on the fire, Amazon.com has the PHB available but with a shipping time of 1-2 mnts. I did wonder, just a bit, if there is a new printing on the way... I would assume, at least a little that WotC might do a new corrected printing. This of course would not be something that one would have to buy as all of the information is out there, but anyone new could pick up and have all of the corrections in one place... |
| #10Tony_VargasApr 05, 2011 21:58:08 | If it is reprinted sometime in the future, will it be with the new Essentials builds for the classes that are being released through dragon, or just have the Errata and keep the same format as before? Will it have a designated "Reprint" or "Essentials printing" on the cover? I suspect the PHB will never be reprinted as such. It /is/ being superceded, though. Much of the rules information is in the Rules Compendium with a bit in HotFL/HotFK. The 4e style classes are being given away for free, presumably, because they have no intention of putting them in print in the future. Aside from Rituals, there's not a lot left. In all likelihood, the PH classes that have not yet received Essentials-style sub-classes will either never see print again, or will eventually be done as E-style sub-classes (or Kit Builds ;) or whatever). The next D&D book titled 'Player's Handbook' will be for 5e. |
| #11Damon_TorApr 05, 2011 22:08:56 | reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen If the errata in question is also free, then I have no problem with this. The Rules Compendium, for example, counts as "errata we pay for" because those rules are not included for free. WotC's policy not to issue free errata for rule changes introduced with print products was annoying back when it was infrequent (such as the current definition of Reliable found in PHB2) but when they release products which appear to exist exculsively for this purpose, my feelings become signifigantly more negative. |
| #12strand0Apr 05, 2011 23:07:14 | The next D&D book titled 'Player's Handbook' will be for 5e. Nope. There needs to be a corrected printing. Why should any newcomer want to buy FOUR (Rules Compendium) books instead of THREE to get all the rules. (That isn't all the changes either.) |
| #13MarandahirApr 05, 2011 23:58:36 | reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen Technically, the Rules Compendium is just a location to find all the non-character creation rules – a turn to place for any rules' ruling. The errata was posted for free as well. And still the book sold well. Strand0, New comers don't buy four books. If s/he is a Player, s/he buys the Player's Essentials book they want, and maybe a Rules Compendium. If s/he is a DM, s/he buys the DM's Kit, a Rules Compendium, and the Monster Vault. That's 2 books for Players and 3 books for DMs. Not four. |
| #14Oathwin_OakheartApr 06, 2011 17:20:18 | I think the next Player's Handbook will be printer in the fall / winter 2011 . . . " Dungeons & Dragons Player's Handbook 4 E - Revised Edition " It will be hardcover and have the updated content from the essential softcover books . . . It will have loads on great new art . . . Everyone will want one. Myself included ! ! ! It will be followed bya Dungeon Master's Guide and Monster Manual . . . Both " Revised Editions ". Just my guess based on how things have gone in the past. I would be willing to bet my favorite " Character Killing " DM dice on it . . . |
| #15Obvious_NinjaApr 06, 2011 21:53:56 | reprinting a PHB1 with errated stuff in it would be a cool thing to have (assuming they dont change that too) but its not going to happen See, I hate that argument. No one says you have to buy anything but to NOT correct the books when you go to a new printing, at the very least is just absurd. Now all in all, I'd love to see a PHB 4th Ed, Revised and corrected book with new art, etc too... |
| #16MarandahirApr 06, 2011 23:34:51 | But you see, I don't think we're getting any new printings of the PH1. They said that the 10 Essentials products would always be stocked on the shelves – i.e., they'll keep printing them all edition. But they aren't churning out fresh-from-the-printer copies of the Player's Handbook anymore. |
| #17Tony_VargasApr 07, 2011 15:33:04 | The next D&D book titled 'Player's Handbook' will be for 5e. Because 4 books @ $20 is cheaper than 3 @ $35. Though, really, you need to buy 5 Essentials books... There's no need for a corrected printing, because all the content is being released elsewhere (RC, HotFL, HotFK, free on-line) - there will soon be no reason to buy a PH1. Really, as of the decision to publish the Class Compendium, the PH was dead. Even with the CC cancelled, the series of free Dragon article with the same classes accomplishes the same deed. The PH will soon be obsolete. Just like the design paradigm that produced it. |

Alright well I am taking the bet, so in December I'll send you my address and you can pack up those Character Killers and send them to the Rocket City, because there is no way a new Players Handbook is coming out this year. If I actually turn out wrong about this, I'll pack up my hematite dice set and throw in a lb of dice from Chessex. -Tig |
| #19Oathwin_OakheartApr 08, 2011 11:40:12 | OK - Tigger11 I think this is a fair bet . . . Dice are cheap to ship. FYI - I live in Canada. My guess is it will appear in the product list for Nov. / Dec. I have never known a time when a hardcover " Dungeons & Dragons PHB " has not been inprint. I could be wrong. I guess we will see . . . |
