| #1Lord_VentnorFeb 17, 2010 17:13:01 | Alright, so far what is known about the Runepriest is that it uses "Rune States" that allow it to be on the offense or on the defense, as the situation calls for it. We know that it's primary ability score is Strength, and that one of the secondary scores is Constitution. Do we know what the other secondary score is yet? |
| #2waterbizkitFeb 17, 2010 17:40:20 | I don't actually know, but as it's a divine class I would hazard a semi-educated guess that wisdom or charisma are likely. While the Avenger and the Invoker both have intelligence as secondary stats, wisdom and charisma are obviously far more prevalent in the power source. ~Bizkit |
| #3SamrinFeb 17, 2010 17:46:29 | I don't actually know, but as it's a divine class I would hazard a semi-educated guess that wisdom or charisma are likely. While the Avenger and the Invoker both have intelligence as secondary stats, wisdom and charisma are obviously far more prevalent in the power source. Far more prevelant? 2 out of the 4 known divine classes have int as a secondar. The other 2 use cha as either a primary or a secondary. Wis is important across the board for all, as either a main or secondary. |
| #4MarandahirFeb 17, 2010 19:49:59 | Also, the premade Warforged Runepriest had Wisdom as a tertiary. It get's a bonus to Str and Con from race, so only if Wisdom made sense for the class would it have moderate wisdom as it did. |
| #5Lord_VentnorFeb 17, 2010 21:40:15 | Still, it would be kind of cool for it to have Intelligence as a secondary. If not when it first releases, then perhaps when additional builds debut in Divine Power 2. |
| #6DSCrankshawFeb 17, 2010 22:18:26 | I agree: Wis seems most likely. In fact, it could be a V class. Unlikely, I know, as WotC seems to have moved away from V classes, but not impossible. |
| #7Tharag_BoccFeb 17, 2010 23:48:28 | I agree: Wis seems most likely. In fact, it could be a V class. Unlikely, I know, as WotC seems to have moved away from V classes, but not impossible. I wouldn't entirely agree that WotC is moving away from V-classes. In the Design & Development article for Martial Power 2, they mention that they considered making the Skirmisher Warlord build use DEX for ranged powers and that the idea was only rejected because it would cut the build off from all the other builds. The fact that such a consideration was even made suggests that WotC has not abandoned the concept of V-classes. That said, I don't expect that the Runepriest is likely to be a V-class. |
| #8melloredFeb 18, 2010 8:27:18 | I don't think they've out right abanoned V-class, but i do think they are more cautious of them. So it's less likely that we'll see any, and if we do, they'll probably have alot more "use X or Y" powers. |
| #9juzerFeb 18, 2010 9:08:21 | We know that it's primary ability score is Strength, and that one of the secondary scores is Constitution. ...I figured it: and if the minotaur runepriest of the next Gameday was only a hyrid characters, and so Strengh wasn't the primary stat for Runespriests? can't the Runepriest be Constitution primary, Wisdom and whatelse secondary (maybe also Strengh)? |
| #10MarandahirFeb 18, 2010 10:37:18 | We know that it's primary ability score is Strength, and that one of the secondary scores is Constitution. Not quite. We have a 10th level Warforged Wrathful Runepriest as well. Strength 20 Constitution 16 Dexterity 10 Intelligence 10 Wisdom 11 Charisma 8 And it's powers were based off of Strength. |
| #11jedi123Feb 19, 2010 9:13:33 | We know that it's primary ability score is Strength, and that one of the secondary scores is Constitution. Perhaps it is a v class. The preview pics seem to be the class prtraits (based off psion and ardent at least), and the has a dwarf. If I remember correctly each class portrait is either human or a race optimized for one of the builds. The warforged we know uses strength. This is hardly proof I know just throwing it out there. Also are those 10th or 1st level stats? Those don't seem to include any stat boosts. |
| #12MarandahirFeb 19, 2010 9:26:08 |
My bad. It says it strangely here – 18+2, 14+2, 10, 10, 11, 8 at first level. I missed the +2s on there – they didn't just work it into the character, assuming we'd know what a 'forged ability scores were. So the real Warforged Wrathful Hammer Runepriest, at level one is what I said before, while at level 10, it's Strength 22 (+6) Constitution 18 (+4) Dexterity 10 (0) Intelligence 10 (0) Wisdom 11 (0) Charisma 8 (-1) As for the Dwarf Runepriest, where did it say they'd be optimal? Dwarves aren't optimal as fighters, but they're still advantaged due to important secondary stats and good feat support, and are iconic. Same thing with Tinkerer Artificers – they have both of the secondary stats needed to make summoning Artificers effective. But if what you say is true, then we might finally be seeing another V-Class. In any case, it's quite different from a Battle Cleric, based on what we saw in the spoiler session. |

No problem just looking for clarification. Nothing said it was optimized, just most class prtaraits I know of are human or otimized. Fighters, paladins, warlords, cb artificer portrait(notice in the epg it is a human i beleive), are exceptions. Also note that while Teiflings are optimized feylocks they are pictured as an infernalock I beleive. Plenty of exceptions to be proof, but one can hope that class design is till somewhat variable. |
| #14Tharag_BoccFeb 19, 2010 9:55:09 | Nothing said it was optimized, just most class prtaraits I know of are human or otimized. Fighters, paladins, warlords, Um... the Warlord's class portrait in PH1 was a dwarf last time I checked. |
| #15MarandahirFeb 19, 2010 9:57:50 | Nothing said it was optimized, just most class prtaraits I know of are human or otimized. Fighters, paladins, warlords, Hence why Jedi said it's an exception. |
| #16Tharag_BoccFeb 19, 2010 10:18:46 | Hence why Jedi said it's an exception. So he did. That "exceptions" didn't seem to follow the flow of how I read the setup, and so must have gotten lost in a blur of text. Also while not a MAXIMIZED optimum, dragonborn are a good enough fighter race that I really wouldn't count them. The teifling warlock portrait is more of an exception to me, as it appears to be infernal. |
| #17MarandahirFeb 19, 2010 10:42:50 | Well, the Githzerai Monk picture looks like a Stone Fist rather than a Centred Breath, so that would only be advantaged, not optimal. I think they're just flavourful, not necessarily trying to be optimal. |
| #18Janx_14Feb 19, 2010 14:24:51 | Dwarves and Runes are often together in fantasy, not surprising to see them as the example one. |
| #19ListlessFeb 24, 2010 20:19:22 | In case it hasn't been posted elsewhere, the builds for Runepriests are Defiant Runepriest which is STR/WIS and Wrathful Runepriest which is STR/CON. |
| #20MarandahirFeb 24, 2010 20:26:56 | In case it hasn't been posted elsewhere, the builds for Runepriests are Defiant Runepriest which is STR/WIS and Wrathful Runepriest which is STR/CON. You sure? I was pretty sure it was Wrathful Hammer Runepriest. |
| #21celticmuttFeb 24, 2010 20:30:04 | My impression from the RPG.net thread was that it's a V class, not an A class. |
| #22ListlessFeb 24, 2010 20:39:58 | Defiant and Wrathful are the names of the example builds they give in PHB3. The acutal class features are called Runic Artistry, which the options are: Defiant Word: When you are missed by an enemy attack you gain a bonus to damage rolls equal to your wis mod against that enemy until the end of your next turn. Wrathful Hammer: Gain prof with military hammers and military maces. When an enemy deals damage to you with an attack, you get a bonus to damage rolls equal to your con mod versus that enemy until the end of your next turn. |
| #23MarandahirFeb 24, 2010 20:41:12 | Sounds like it's like normal – Strength primary, with Con or Wis builds, then. |
| #24Lord_VentnorFeb 25, 2010 2:28:32 | Wait... Military Maces? Are there such things? Also, thanks for the spoiler, Listless. I'm still going to hope for an Intelligence-based Runepriest in Divine Power 2. |
| #25Plaguescarred1Feb 25, 2010 3:34:54 | I agree: Wis seems most likely. In fact, it could be a V class. Unlikely, I know, as WotC seems to have moved away from V classes, but not impossible. What's a V-Class and A-Class exactly ? Look like it resolve around Stats and Powers keyed to them, but i am not sure i understand. May someone explains to me ? Please/Thanks |
| #26celticmuttFeb 25, 2010 3:48:42 | The Warlock is a V class - two primary stats (Con/Cha), one secondary (Int). The Druid is an A class - one primary stat (Wis), two secondaris (Con/Dex). Technically A classes tend to have more than two secondaries, like the Wizard (everything but Str), but there isn't really a letter for that ... |
| #27MoleculeFeb 25, 2010 13:29:17 | Technically A classes tend to have more than two secondaries, like the Wizard (everything but Str), but there isn't really a letter for that ... Malformed Octopus Class. |
| #28DSCrankshawFeb 25, 2010 13:34:58 | The problem with V classes is that any one build only has access to half the powers. Thus you get things like the PHB1 paladin, with only 2 (relatively weak) Str dailies by the time they've got to choose three dailies. (Which is why the pre-DP strength paladin was only considered viable if they multi-classed.) If WotC is introducing another V class, I hope they've gotten better at it, so we don't have to wait until the next power book for one of the builds to become viable. Admittedly, one of the original problems was that WotC assumed that a V class would max both primaries, whereas the players wanted to optimize one primary and secondary. WotC seems to have learned from that mistake. |
| #29celticmuttFeb 25, 2010 17:55:47 | Well, according to the RPG.net thread, the Runepriest is definietly an A class. Guess I just misunderstood the earlier posts. |
| #30DSCrankshawFeb 25, 2010 20:48:54 | Wrathful Hammer: Gain prof with military hammers and military maces. When an enemy deals damage to you with an attack, you get a bonus to damage rolls equal to your con mod versus that enemy until the end of your next turn. That's... interesting. The first part is pretty useless to dwarves, who get most of the military hammers for free, and who would probably take DWT for the Mordenkrad rather than using a maul. Not, of course, that dwarves are the only race for Rune priests, or even the most optimal, but I thought they'd try to make Rune priest appeal to them, so this seems counterintuitive. |
| #31Janx_14Feb 25, 2010 22:05:59 | Most melee classes Dwarves are good at, except for the cleric, get all military hammers for free. Hammer prof is not a big dwarven selling point, nor is there "no speed penalty in heavy armour" when they only move 5 anyway. That said, dwarves being Con/Wis make them good at either build. I'm sure dwarves will get plenty of feat love too in Divine Power II. |
| #32DSCrankshawFeb 25, 2010 22:19:31 | Most melee classes Dwarves are good at, except for the cleric, get all military hammers for free. Hammer prof is not a big dwarven selling point, nor is there "no speed penalty in heavy armour" when they only move 5 anyway. Considering how few dwarf feats there were in DP (two, and not that useful), I'm not so sure about that. |
| #33greatfritoFeb 25, 2010 22:23:44 | Technically A classes tend to have more than two secondaries, like the Wizard (everything but Str), but there isn't really a letter for that ... So... A-Class, V-Class, and... -Class? |
| #34Lord_VentnorMar 07, 2010 19:20:00 | I just have to say that I'm really excited about this class now, and I can't wait to get a good look at it. Already, I have an idea for a Genasi Runepriest who forms Runes of flame from the flames that come off of his body. |
| #35Plaguescarred1Mar 07, 2010 19:23:51 | The Warlock is a V class - two primary stats (Con/Cha), one secondary (Int). Got it. Thanks Celt. |
| #36praionMar 09, 2010 3:45:25 | I just have to say that I'm really excited about this class now, and I can't wait to get a good look at it. In the word of GMC "i like, i like it a lot" |
