| #1thehangmansjokeMar 28, 2009 5:50:25 | I was positive I'd read somewhere that there was a Monk class in 4E, but I can't find it anywhere. Is there or was I just smoking crack (figuratively speaking of course)? |

Is there or was I just smoking crack (figuratively speaking of course)? Not yet. PHBIII, perhaps, or in one of the Powers books to come. I DO think that there is to be a Monk playtest next month in Dragon magazine, though. |
| #3reluctantdmMar 28, 2009 6:04:29 | A while back there was a "if you really want to play 3.5 class X, here's how to best emulate it in 4e" article. IIRC, monk was a highly tweaked ranger. You can probably reflavor a rogue or ranger, decide weapon stats for his fists (possibly having him attack NADs instead of getting a proficiency bonus), and mostly go from there. But no stats on the actual monk, just a promise they'll come eventually. |
| #4thehangmansjokeMar 28, 2009 6:07:28 | Drat, ok well thanks for that. Guess I'll just go with a Dark Pact Warlock Tiefling for now. |
| #5johnniiMar 28, 2009 6:18:26 | The Avenger is very Monk-like, with a touch of more religion and western-flavor. With your DMs approval you could tweak him to up unarmed proficiency and damage (perhaps with a feat) |
| #6morvannonMar 28, 2009 6:32:11 | I think the third-party "Advanced Player's Guide" might have a Monk class in it as well, that might be what you had heard of. |
| #7RedRiderMar 28, 2009 6:41:28 | With your DMs approval you could tweak him to up unarmed proficiency and damage (perhaps with a feat) There's discussion on Unarmed Combat on this thread and a very handsome poster suggested a system for unarmed styles on this page. |
| #8eivoMar 28, 2009 7:30:03 | I'm still waiting for my Ninja to be released. I was so good with that thing in 3rd. I miss it. ![]() |
| #9eivoMar 28, 2009 7:39:28 | You mean the Rogue class in PHB I ? But it's not CALLED Ninja! :P |
| #10FylloMar 28, 2009 7:45:45 | You can change that yourself, can't you? ;) Just lacks the eastern flavour and tool use-- grappling hooks, explosive powders, etc. Though of course you can use them without them being class features, can't you? |
| #11garisdacarMar 28, 2009 7:50:08 | yeah just take alchemy and make some yourself. |
| #12thescalesoffateMar 30, 2009 3:14:38 | Apparently this thread has officially been hijacked and transformed into another "ZOMG WHERES THE NINJA" "NO WAI WE HAVE ROGUES ALREADY!" "NOT THE SAME" "YES THE SAME" thread. 'grats, guys. |
| #13xophix3112Mar 30, 2009 14:15:32 | Yep, stay focused people... There is no Monk yet, there will be one in the future... some classes might look like it, but they're not... end of topic, ignoring ninja gossip revival... :rolleye2: |
| #14NautilusMar 30, 2009 21:33:17 | The Monk will be a ki striker, with primary abilities of Wis, Dex and Str. Builds will include unarmed, staff wielder, nunchaku/two-weapon wielder and shuriken flinger. The unarmed (Str) and two-weapon (Dex) builds are most likely to be in PHB3, with the other two saved for Ki Power. Exactly how the unarmed monk will receive weapon upgrades is unknown, but may possibly involve a worn, non-slot item (like a headband) boosting the attacks. The above is speculative, but seems like a reasonable guess. |
| #15Steely_DanMar 31, 2009 3:09:29 | A play-test Monk is coming out in May on DDI. |
