I would really like to see a working virtual assistant for D&D. Not so much what DDi is supposed to do (though I DESPERATELY want to see that soon), but more along the lines of helping a DM, or enterprising player, create new classes, races, abilities, monsters, etc. in the proper 4E format with lots of extras.

That would be nice. I believe DM Tools will handle some of that and is just dealing with some logistics details now. And, iut wouldn't necessarily be available under the GSL, but going strict copyright or getting a license directly from Wiz would be awesome to have a tool like you suggest. Working on my own publications, I have had to build way to many template files and have worked on adding data into different databases to make the whole process more efficient, but that seems to have defeated my purpose, as I am not a programmer, so it's anything but efficient.

Eldritch_Lord and (I can't spell his name but it startes with an L and ends with an R and sounds decidedly Germanic) are working on one and are currently awaiting approval from WotC to distribute it
