| #1OrzelMay 24, 2009 18:50:04 | How about another Constitution based class in PH3. My warlock needs a decent drinking buddy who doesn't carry an axe and a second class to dabble in. Any word on another Con based class. Psionic doesn't seem to work with Constitution primary class uless you are gonna smash people with your healthy brain cells. So that's leaves primal and divine. Maybe fusing with an angel or titan... or absorbing energy with my brain... or beat some goblins up with my innards. When can I start channeling godly or raw natural power through my body? |
| #2MarandahirMay 24, 2009 19:42:00 | Do you want a race or a class? Your topic and your OP are in contradiction with one another. There are at least 2 more Constitution-based races in the PH3, as for classes, we shall see. Psionics can very much work with Constitution; Constitution represents your health, stamina, and lifeforce. I fully expect at least one Psionic class to have Constitution as an important ability score: you focus your mind and body to push beyond the limits of mortal man or dragonborn. Your will is unshakable, your mind is like a diamond, unable to be broken, and you last through anything that goes for it. |

| #4MarandahirMay 24, 2009 20:12:23 | Nope. Monk is an A class, with a major in Dex, and a minor in either Wisdom or Strength. The third is also good to have, so that you can cross-train in the other build (or builds, when Psionic Power comes out). |

Outside of jamming a couple psionic monsters through your chest or a symbiotic relationship with a psionic disease, I don't see how you can make a psionic attack power using Constitution. |
| #6MarandahirMay 24, 2009 20:26:03 | Psionic =/= Psychic. That's a discarded definition. While psychic attacks are more common in a Psionic class, just as elemental attacks are more common in an Arcane or Primal (or Elemental, presumably) class, and just as Necrotic attacks are more common in a Shadow class, that doesn't mean that they have to be. There is not a single Psychic attack power in the playtest of the Monk. That's because Psionic is not about using Psychic attacks. You don't need to be Psionic to deliver a Psychic attack. And you don't need to deliver Psychic attacks to be Psionic. You need to have deep and rigorous training of the mind over the body. The Monk, a Psionic class, only uses one "mental" ability - Wisdom, and it's a minor one, as opposed to its Dexterity and its other minor in Strength. This is not because of Monk being "tacked-on" to Psionic from Ki, it's the new concept for Psionic, which frankly, makes a lot more sense than the old Psionic of just explaining a different way of manifesting spells. |
| #7doctorhookMay 24, 2009 20:31:01 | yeah.... Meant Constitution class. He already explained it above, and it still makes more sense than an Arcane class using Strength like the Sorcerer already does. The trick is not to think about it too much, because it really is totally arbitrary when it comes down to it; ability scores are just abstractions of human capabilities, so they don't translate well to real-life, and they especially don't translate well to fantastic non-abstractions. Don't worry. Be happy. You'll almost certainly get your Constitution class, I believe. |
| #8OrzelMay 24, 2009 20:38:44 | You still have to attack via you physical body's "health and toughness". You can train training of the mind over the body but you still have the hit the dragon with something. That's the hard part. Turning mental focus into physical hardness without stepping on the Monk class. |

Everyone in the movie shakes and freaks out when they blow up people's heads. It seems like it takes a lot of Con to concentrate your mental power. |

It seems like it takes a lot of Con to concentrate your mental power. One could also argue that mental states, when reduced to the most basic level, are really just physical states. Relaxation and meditative techniques just allow the production/stimulation of certain chemicals in the brain which alter mood and such. When it comes down to it, as long as there are well thought out reasons for the use of a given attribute as an attack stat, then that's fine. |
| #11Axiomatic_BadgerMay 25, 2009 11:39:30 | Two possibilities. 1. Psionic characters channel lots of energy. Constitution is needed to prevent the backlash vapourising thier internal fluids. Good for characters who don't have full control over thier powers. 2. As a Psi character's powers increases, his body becomes less and less important to his survival, resulting in an increased constitution. |
| #12deinosMay 25, 2009 14:16:40 | yeah.... Meant Constitution class. In 2E the body was 1/3rd of psionics and in 3.0 the body was 1/2 of psionics. Sprouting bone armor and claws and ripping monsters to shreds is psionics too, and has been since psionics were introduced for the first time. |
| #13OrzelMay 25, 2009 15:31:33 | Although I spoke about channeling power through my body, I'd hate to see 3.0 kineticists return. It didn't make enough sense to me. Sprouting bone claws and ripping monsters to shreds I like. Or elastic limbs. Or crushing people with your fatness. Or spitting your poisonus saliva or corrosive stomach acids. |
| #14the_badger_02May 26, 2009 14:50:26 | 3.5 Kineticists were too blatant of a cop out, 3.0 there was a bit more of a focus on some form of concussion being your basic attack power. And just creating basic concussive force with psychic power is both pretty basic and pretty awesome. It's the egoists who've always given me a coronary. How the hell is modifying your body psionic. I hope shifting psions go the way of the dinosaur and leave that **** to the Druids. |
| #15AvonRekaesMay 26, 2009 14:58:24 | How is modifying your body psionic? Ever play Street Fighter 2? I have one word for you. YOGA |
| #16Axiomatic_BadgerMay 27, 2009 10:00:50 | Psionics it thought over reality. The body is part of reality; Arguably the body is easier to alter than other matter because people tend to think of thier body as a part of thier identity. |
