| #1havyxMar 23, 2011 4:34:32 | Does anyone know if WoTC plans on doing 2nd printings of the books which have had significant amounts of errata (PHB, MP, AP, AV1, DMG, MM1, MM2,...)? For example, the PHB has had so much errata it's near impossible to read without also reading its errata. As much as I hate to pay for these books twice, I would do so in this case because these books have become dreadfully outdated and near useless by themselves. Another thing that would be nice to see is for WoTC to also provide PDF versions for sale for a significantly reduced price. Once paid for, a purchaser should be able to get future printings of the PDFs for free (like how paizo handles pathfinder). ------- WoTC, I am essentially asking you to do very little work to make something I am willing to pay for instead of you coming up with products on your own that I don't want to pay for. |

The PHB classes are getting re-do's in dragon, and the rules are in the rules compendium. Also, there's nothing wrong with the MM1 monsters. Yes they changed design, but the old ones are still functional. |

They did, but they also reduced defenses, but the total balance hasn't changed. But i don't think they'll have a third printing of those specific books. The new information will be availible in some form or another though, and you can always print the dragon articles if you want... |

The Rules Compendium is great for game mechanics and addresses all game mechanics errata, it is the only solid book covering what it is suppose to cover without having to read other additional material. Think of it as a 2nd printing for game mechanics, it's wonderful. However, Rules Compendium doesn't cover changes to class powers, paths, racial attribute bonuses, racial powers, feats, MM1/2 monster attributes, magic items, etc. I'm just looking for reprints that address these changes the way the Rules Compendium addressed errata to game mechanics. i.e. one book that covers all the updated class powers, one book with all the feats, etc... or one book for everything... or just reprint the existing books incorporating the errata (seems the easiest way to go). If people liked the reprint of the game mechanics incorporating errata, why wouldn't they like the same for all the other parts of the game? (I know I would) |
| #9MarandahirMar 24, 2011 7:05:23 | Because most of us already have it, for free. So when they went about introducing those 8 "essential" classes again, they introduced them in new forms, so that it wouldn't seem like we're paying for errata. Since they cancelled the Class Compendium book – which was to do exactly what you want for the PH1 Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, Warlord, and Wizard – and are instead releasing it as D&Di material, it would seem their research studies have shown that not enough people would buy such an errata book to even break even for the making of it. But they still have the material, so they're giving it to us Insiders. Which, frankly, is what the Inside was supposed to be about when they first touted it. So that's all cool. Unless they're giving it for free. Which would be cool too. |
| #10melloredMar 24, 2011 7:42:33 | Unless they're giving it for free. I doupt that. I havn't seen them give any mechanics away free, except as previews. Giving away the Class Compendium for free would be like giving the PHB away for free. |
| #11MarandahirMar 24, 2011 8:52:09 | Good point. I was mainly considering that it's errata, so they would want to provide the errata for free. I bet we'll get a Rules Updates download at some point with more errata for the PH1 to bring it in line with the Class Compendium entries. |
| #12robertread3Mar 24, 2011 13:46:01 | would be nice, but the Character builder is all that is relavent to most people, and it covers errata. i really dont agree with the thought of errata, its a book you sold me not an MMO that can be patched and altered at a whim, a book is a book not supposed to change. but its not an issue that will be altered anytime soon |
| #13havyxMar 24, 2011 18:31:11 | would be nice, but the Character builder is all that is relavent to most people, and it covers errata. I agree that the Character Builder has the bulk of the class updates but not everyone likes to be completely dependent on the DDI and/or internet connection. Also, books do change. Reprinting books as revisions or editions is not a new concept. |

Bummer though, I sure would like a nice book to have at my table to meet these needs. Seems kind of silly to be dependent on the internet to play a tabletop game. If I wanted to stare at the computer to play a game, I wouldn't be playing D&D I'd be playing a completely different game. Need to go buy more paper for my printer.... maybe WotC should sell printer ink and paper, that should help their revenue. |
