| #1FaustianPenguinApr 15, 2010 1:51:21 | Specially, are we going to finally get more Devil Lords? We've got stats for 1/9 right now, and he's like the least interesting one. I know I'm personally foaming at the mouth for Asmodeus' stats, but I highly doubt we'll get those. |
| #2WizardmanApr 15, 2010 3:38:43 | Sadly, no. We get a few new devils introduced, but no archdevils are among them. We do get some of Gruumsh's exarchs statted out, though (Baghtru, Luthic, and Vaprak). |
| #3FaustianPenguinApr 15, 2010 9:14:15 | Well that's incredibly boring. God. I hope they're saving them for a full-out Nine Hells splatbook then. |
| #4Bargle0Apr 15, 2010 9:18:45 | We do get some of Gruumsh's exarchs statted out, though (Baghtru, Luthic, and Vaprak). I'm going to put one of them in my next dungeon in a 10'x10' room guarding a pie. |

| #6WizardmanApr 15, 2010 17:54:24 | Baghtru is a level 23 brute, Luthic a level 27 controller (leader), and Vaprak a level 25 skirmisher. All are elite. |
| #7MirtekApr 16, 2010 11:16:13 | Baghtru is a level 23 Ouch, that hurts for a former intermediate power ![]() |
| #8WizardmanApr 16, 2010 17:10:37 | Baghtru is a level 23 Yeah. I think that they ought to have higher levels or else be solos (preferably both). |
| #9Lord_VentnorApr 16, 2010 22:28:44 | Do we get any new Deity stats in here? Because this would be the book to put'em in. |
| #10WizardmanApr 17, 2010 1:42:28 | Do we get any new Deity stats in here? Because this would be the book to put'em in. Sadly no. I squeed when I saw that there was a section devoted to Gruumsh, but it just turned out to feature his exarchs and a few new monsters: battlesworn orc legionnaire (level 23 minion soldier), battlesworn ogre mauler (level 24 brute), battlesworn orc bloodsage (level 26 minion artillery) and battlesworn war troll defender (level 26 soldier). Truth be told, I was surprised by the lack of boss monsters. I had expected a deity or a Lord of the Nine. |
| #11Duke5150Apr 17, 2010 20:20:59 | This book should have a super power in it. A deity and a lord of the nine would have been great. Not including either one is very disappointing. |
| #12WizardmanApr 18, 2010 2:11:44 | To be fair, the lack of a boss monster or two is the book's only real disappointment. The fluff is fantastic, and there's a lot of effort made to reconcile differing bits of information that have been given in other sources to date, ie. the different origins of Bane. There was a lot of effort made to make the Astral Sea feel like its own setting, and in my opinion it worked. I hope that there are books for the Feywild and the Shadowfell on the horizon. |

I expected the plane above to be good. So I'm not surprised. I'v been very pleased with almost every 4e book released and even though plane above drops the ball on "boss" monsters, I will still buy it.. Without a doubt. It just would have been really nice to get a new "super power" in this book. I mean, this IS the plane above. The plane below gave us some very awesome monsters AND a primordial. The underdark gave us some very cool monsters AND TOROG!!! So, I hope the exarchs are worth it and I really, really hope there is a ton of great info on the different domains, especially baator. I can't wait to get this book. |
| #14WizardmanApr 18, 2010 2:42:10 | The monsters range from okay to good. The Abominations are the standouts, IMO. There's quite a bit of Githyanki goodness as well. I think that every type of Githyanki from "The Invasion of the Lich-Queen" scenario from Dungeon #100 has now been translated to 4E. There are power themes given for exalted of Erathis and Kord (as well as already existing themes been listed for some other gods). There are new devils and new servants of Bane and Gruumsh. The chapter is pretty decent, but not the highlight of the book. |
| #15Duke5150Apr 18, 2010 2:53:44 | My question is, will I be happy with the domain content or will I find it lacking? Does it add to the information in the manual of the planes? Does it offer new fluff on each domain? Is there artwork for the domains? Pre-made adventure locations in the domains? |
| #16WizardmanApr 18, 2010 3:49:18 | There's plenty of fluff for the domains, but as a rule domains that have already been looked at get less. The Hestavar section focuses on the three gods that live there, and the Nine Hells section gives ideas on running Hell-based adventures, and explicitly says that the section in MotP "offers an effective travelogue of the Nine Hells." Celestia is a little bland, but Arvandor and Chernoggar are fantastic, and Tytherion gets some needed development. There's also the "shattered dominions" to consider; they have a lot more adventure-oriented material as well as some nifty fluff. There isn't much fluff about the Dawn War, and most of it has already been previewed. That being said, it is repeatedly made clear that the Plane Above is still feeling the fallout from the war. Every domain gets artwork, but some of it is pretty generic. Arvandor's two pictures are lovely, and there's a full page picture of a temple of Zehir that is amazing (bravo, Wayne England!) |

I'm even more excited to get my grubby paws on this book now, thank you! |
