I know this is pretty late for asking, but has anyone heard anything about the upcoming Avenger stuff that's coming out in the Divine Handbook?

Everything I've seen so far has been pretty lackluster and I want a reason why my Avenger can go pure Avenger instead of going the multiclass route so many people are saying you have to do to fill your role as a Striker.

They did mention something about a Commanding Avenger on the recent podcast, which is supposed to tie in some Leader capability.

My advice is to go check out a bookstore next week, to have a flip through the book. (At least, I think Divine Power comes out next week...) Odds are good that there'll be enough interesting material between that book and PH2 to make the sort of Avenger you want, if the past Power books are any indication. Also, I hear there's supposed to be a more offensive-minded Paladin build in Divine Power; that sounds kinda "Avenger-y" to me, so maybe you should check that out too. Either way, look before you buy.

PS: Don't be afraid of multiclassing. You can make a boring character interesting just by dabbling.

Might want to make sure if Multi-classing is allowed in your game before you go and look at it.

Is it ever not? That would be weird.

...Do you not allow multiclassing in your game? If not, why not? That's... odd.

Heh, no multiclassing? That really is wierd. What reason was given?

Back on topic, I'm very interested in finding out what Censure of Unity actually does.

I played an Avenger and didn't want to multiclass for fluff reasons, and ended up feeling weak and useless...so yeah, at least give martyrs more ability to at least take the hits so i can pump my dmg if you aren't gonna give us multi-attacks.

At least i never missed with dailies...woohoo!

The avenger is my party is very effective. Remember, take weapons/feats/powers that trigger on crits. High crit weapons, Vicious or Rending Magic Weapons. Lots and lots of damage, because you get twice the crits.

Plus an unusually high AC for Strikers means you don't need much defending.

Our avenger is great too. The party barbarian can do a lot of damage when he does hit, but he misses a lot too. The avenger almost always hits and has lots of powers that either let him move around with ease or move the target around.

Having a vicious weapon, righteous rage of tempus (errata'd) and elven precision don't hurt his cause either!

I loves my Avenger. Pursuit Avenger/Rogue/DaggerMaster, dual wielding Bloodiron Daggers. Flame Bracers, a War Ring, Assault Boots, and Two Weapon Opening let me deal a massive amount of damage with his tiny daggers on a crit.

It may not be as optimal as it could be...but boy is it fun slaying a giant with a dagger.

Satori just proved my point -
I loves my Avenger. Pursuit Avenger/Rogue/DaggerMaster

while people love to play their Avenger (Who doesn't like to hit alot). There's really nothing special about the class but the hitting and most people end up MCing there Avenger to bring some of that excitment of Big hits or effects to the Avengers (lack of) bag of tricks.

I'm still holding out some hope that Divine will bring some goodies to the Avengers but from the leaked stuff I've seen, it still looks more exciting to MC into another class and pick up their stuff.

I dunno, you seem to be the guy saying that. As Marauder_69 and I have noted, the Avengers in our campaigns fill the striker role perfectly well. If you don't like playing Avengers, don't. I think lots of teleporting, shifting, and other effects are perfectly enjoyable.

If you look around at enworld or rpg.net you probably can find some spoilers.
