| #1theborgOct 11, 2009 16:31:07 | I think this could be a very cool product.. Sounds similar to the Fantastic Locations series of 3rd Edition, only infinitely usable - a possible "homebase" as described.. Anyone have any hopes or info for this..? |
| #2JohnLynchOct 11, 2009 20:48:42 | I'm hoping it does well so they release future products that may be more useful to me I'm a player in a home campaign that uses the DMG and H1-E3 "world." As such, me stealing Hammerfest and putting it down in Eberron may feel a bit bizarre as its already been identified as belonging to a different world. And while I may do that for extra-planar locations (e.g. Sigil), it would feel wrong to me to do it for Hammerfest. I'm also not excited about the book as a player because AFAIK Hammerfest is ignored in the original H1-E3 series of books. As such, I know my DM isn't going to get any use out of it unless he rewrites the modules even more than he already has. But I am excited about the idea in general |
| #3doctorhookOct 12, 2009 17:01:00 | Heck yeah, I'm excited! I wanna know as much as possible about the Nentir Vale! |
| #4theborgOct 12, 2009 17:42:30 | Me too.. I do hope at some point Wizards decides to release a product that brings all of these places together on a map.. I know the general idea is to let DM's kinda build their own worlds as they go - and thats fine - but I suck at that stuff, and would really love to see the designer's final layout for the "known world" haha.. |
| #5alphasquirellOct 12, 2009 22:08:02 | I hope it comes out before my group finishes H1 (which could happen, as we haven't set an official playtime as a group yet, which, for us, comes BEFORE character creation, and I intend to run them through the Kobold Hall in the DMG as a crash-course in D&D Combat, as well as letting them RP to their hearts content, which may draw things out a bit). I'm primarily running the H1-E3 campaign, but I like to tweak and add and drop things in between the printed adventures I use. I would love to let the group roam around Hammerfast between H1 and H2, and let them go back between H2 and H3. (I might slow down level advancement to squeeze in more time in the Nentir Vale during the Heroic tier, or have them do extra tidbits here and there to put them slightly above par for the printed adventures, which I think I can get away with without screwing up balance until they really get the hang of 4E)
I'm absolutely excited. |

If you suck at that stuff, why not use one of their campaign worlds? You don't even need to restrict yourself to the official 4th ed setting. You could go third party, or use a previous edition's setting fluff for a 4th ed campaign. |
| #7theborgOct 13, 2009 16:17:01 | That's good advice and I see what you're saying.. I guess I really don't need all that much background.. For the most part, I'm into running (and for the most part, railroading into) the official modules.. I guess it woud just be nice to be able to point to a nice looking overland map, maybe with a little extra background info.. I don't know if I'm looking for a huge campaign book like the Realms.. |
| #8sepsisOct 13, 2009 17:16:30 | The best thing about 4e is you really only need a small amount of info to create your "world". As a quick example just look at the setting I created and use for my 4e games: www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Moertus_%284e_Camp... |
| #9bugleymanOct 14, 2009 17:38:45 | Looks very promising. |
| #10dragonwhimsyOct 15, 2009 9:29:11 | If it's anything like the Hammerfest as shown in the Penny Arcade/PvP podcasts then yes very excited indeed. Sounded like a fun place. And of course... the Ambershards! And yes I too would love to see more of these. |

HammerFAST. It's called Hammerfast. ;) |
| #12dragonwhimsyOct 15, 2009 20:48:58 | I like mine better. It's so much more festive. ;) |
| #13Ash2DustOct 15, 2009 20:53:18 | When you're in Hammerfast, every day is Hammerfest! |
