| #1LordArchaonMay 04, 2010 1:33:08 | Check the May preview for Dragon... Share your opinions!! By the way, it's June they're talking about, I guess, although the "Guilds & Groups: Shades of Darkness" article scheduled for May the 21st looks similar. My hopes?? Dual-wielding assassins of course... And a third, different secondary stat, although something called "gloaming dance" is nearly screaming Charisma... |

I'm guessing Wisdom as a secondary, just so the exceedingly rare Dex/Wis races get some love. |
| #3LordArchaonMay 04, 2010 5:10:43 | My hopes?? Dual-wielding assassins of course... And a third, different secondary stat, although something called "gloaming dance" is nearly screaming Charisma... ... The truth is that we would all have preferred a different PRIMARY for tha Assassin, don't we? A good INT, for example... Or even CON... Both very explainable. One as knowledge of shadow magic, the other as a form of resistance to the corrupting power of the same energy, and then the higher your resistance, the greater your mastering of it... |
| #4peraion_graufalkeMay 04, 2010 8:39:30 | While they could've gone with Con as primary, I guess they chose Dex because of certain synergies (rogues and drow come to mind). Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is in the eye of the beholder. (I have no problems with it, personally.) At least we can be thankful WotC didn't go the "V-shaped class" route. |
| #5Cyber-DaveMay 04, 2010 12:51:18 | I am REALLY happy they chose Dex as the assassin primary. I would have been sort of pissed if they made it Con or Int. Those make good secondary choices for an assassin, but not primary choices, in my opinion. Anyways, I remember them saying something about a archer build for an assassin. I wonder if this gloaming dance build might be it... |
| #6ekioMay 04, 2010 12:52:56 | I really don't want another Wisdom based... anything for right now. ![]() |
| #7CyvarisMay 04, 2010 17:05:02 | Sign me up for INT(Eladrin assassins FTW) and dual wielding. But then again why does EVERY freaking class have to be a dual wielding class? |
| #8sallaMay 04, 2010 17:13:47 | Sign me up for INT(Eladrin assassins FTW) and dual wielding. But then again why does EVERY freaking class have to be a dual wielding class? Because chicks dig it. Er, I mean, because many players think dual-wielding is cool. |
| #9peraion_graufalkeMay 04, 2010 18:10:25 | Sign me up for INT(Eladrin assassins FTW) and dual wielding. But then again why does EVERY freaking class have to be a dual wielding class? QFT. We've been spoiled by Drizzt. ![]() |
| #10CyvarisMay 04, 2010 20:00:44 | Who would be teh awesome as an assassin! Stats would match up, lolz Drizzt with perfect stats.![]() |
| #11Cyber-DaveMay 04, 2010 21:04:37 | You know, I really don't want a dual weilding assassin build. What I REALLY want is an archer assassin build, and an assassin build that focuses on the use of light blades. |
| #12SaltyFishMay 04, 2010 21:46:31 | DEX-based dual wielding? Bring it on! I do find it strange that most dual wielding characters in 3e had high DEX (and probably took Weapon Finesse because of it) and that there's been no DEX-based dual wielding in 4e so far. I know that 3e to 4e conversions will never be exact, but isn't the image of someone dual wielding with finesse rather than raw strength iconic enough? Especially considering that 4e already has options to dual wield based off WIS and CHR! Oh, and let's hope we'll have powers that support dual range weapons. Dual hand crossbows anyone? Or just dual throwing knives/axes? ![]() |
| #13undraveMay 05, 2010 0:57:05 | DEX-based dual wielding? Bring it on! The Tempest fighter and Whirling Barbarian both have DEX secondary. that,s close enough if you ask me. |
| #14DuskweaverMay 05, 2010 2:36:58 | The Tempest fighter and Whirling Barbarian both have DEX secondary. that,s close enough if you ask me. And the two-blade ranger. Dex is generally a better choice than Wis as secondary for them, especially if you want to stay in light armour and/or go Stormwarden. But I still want to see a Dex-based dual-wielding option, preferably with an emphasis on light blades (katars!*) "Gloaming Dance" suggests, to me:
* - Yes, I know tempest fighters like katars. But I'd like to see them be useful for more than a single class build. |
| #15chanter_houndMay 05, 2010 2:50:03 | I would absolutly LOVE if they made a duel wielding build for the assassin, mostly because I've always seen duel wielding katars as pure awesome. Though in my situation, I'd use it to play Gnoll. Possibly revenant gnoll. Int would be Okay.. but meh. |
| #16peraion_graufalkeMay 05, 2010 3:16:53 | So there are at least two more builds we'd like to see for assassins: - Archer assassin - Two-blade and/or light blade assassin (dual-wielding katars FTW!) IMO Int as a secondary would make sense for an implement-heavy, "castery" assassin build, or alternatively - along the lines of the cunning rogue - an archer build. Though archers scream Wis to me...
|
| #17Cyber-DaveMay 05, 2010 18:24:05 | Yea. The archer build should probably be Dex/Wis. A light blade build would work as a Dex/Int build, though. |
| #18SaltyFishMay 05, 2010 20:14:16 | My biggest gripe with the existing dual wielding is that all such melee powers still STR primary. Which basically means that you'd still need to pour more into STR then DEX. I'd be satisfied if there were some DEX primary, STR secondary melee dual wielding powers. I do agree with everyone that katar (and to a lesser extent, kukri as well) could use some love. I think were it not for the Daggermaster PP, it could've seen more use among rogues. |
| #19psk20May 05, 2010 21:04:10 | I'm guessing that it will be more heavily stealth/invisibility based. It seems to fit in with the "gloaming" part. Perhaps dual wield but gloaming dance sounds extremely similar to shadowdancer to me. I'm hoping dex/wis but we'll see ![]() |
| #20Janx_14May 06, 2010 0:41:32 | Sign me up for INT(Eladrin assassins FTW) and dual wielding. But then again why does EVERY freaking class have to be a dual wielding class? Every freaking class being the fighter, ranger, and barbarian? Thats 3 out of the 25 or so we have now. The assassin needs a build that actually does some freaking damage, dual-wielders have historicly been neer the top. |
| #21psk20May 06, 2010 0:50:53 | Releasing a dual-wield spec in order to increase the damage of the Assassin class would be a bad move, imo. Wizards needs to increase the damage of the class as a whole - why render Bleak Disciple and Night Stalker suboptimal? In a way I'm quietly more excited about the potential for this article to contain stuff that all assassins can use (e.g. more powers, more feats, etc etc) than I am about this new build. But I'm not holding my breath! |
| #22chanter_houndMay 06, 2010 16:52:36 | yeah, I'm not going to hold my breath either. Instead I'm going to expect 4 pages of fluff on why you should be some other class instead and a single feat that goes compleatly against what most people would be playing assassins for. (Like a feat that allows you to mark every enemy you see as you shout and hollorer on just how awesome you are.) |
