Astral Dreadnought Problem?

Nov 24, 2008 13:17:01 It seems to me that the dreadnought would have no sane reason to swallow a living being whole. After all, its insides have few defences and no attacks that I saw in the preview, meaning people can just hack at the eye until the dreadnought dies.
Am I missing something?

It's a former angel warped into a horrible form by a horrible dead god who caused the abyss as we know it. I don't think logic enters its thought process.

Plus its intestines have an attack, too.

Orb of Dread (free 1/round; at-will) ✦ Psychic
Close blast 3; targets swallowed creatures; +26 vs. Will; the
target is dazed (save ends). First Failed Saving Throw: The target
is stunned instead of dazed (save ends). Second Failed Saving
Throw: The target is stunned and takes ongoing 40 psychic
damage (save ends both).

Check out the bolded text. I also suspect that Chained God's Gaze would also work since it still has a eye inside the demiplane. Also the eye is insubstantial.

Nov 24, 2008 14:33:57 Glad to see it back. The Astral Dreadnought has always been a favorite of mine (ever since seeing it on the 1e Manual of the Planes). The artwork this time around sucks IMHO. Nothing against the illustrator, but it doesn't seem as terrifying/awe inspiring.

Nov 25, 2008 3:46:42 The original artwork was awesome. If WotC doesn't mind recycling their old images (and they don't seem to mind doing so in the MM), they should have just grabbed it.
