I'm preparing to run a 5e game of Hoard of the Dragon Queen,  I intend on using a virtual tabletop and dungeonscape when it comes out. to accomplish this I'm going to have to buy the product 3 times as follows:

$20 - A physical copy of the book

$15.25 - High rez copies of the maps from the artist's website (http://theredepic.bigcartel.com/)

$??.?? - Dungeonscape in-app purchase

This isnt for bits of new content, its for the SAME content in friendler formats. There NEEDS to be a way to link purchases, make it CD keys, QR codes in the books, proof of purchase, whatever. The modern consumer demands portability of content, When I buy an adventure I want to buy all the material neccesary to run it in whatever format i care to.

When you hire an artist to do map work, buy the work outright and put it on the website or product page, Virtual Tabletops arent going away anytime soon and we need those high resolution images, I realize WOTC isnt selling the maps in this case, but the artist shouldnt have been able to negotiate the rights to sell them in the first place.

The maps are an optional purchase. Dungeonscape is a separate product that has separate people working on it. It has a separate business model so another price point. I think that a lot of people will get angry if they have to pay $35+ for the book and get stuff they don’t want. The number of map and software purchases won’t be close to the number of book purchases.

The price is broken up so people can choose what they want to purchase. If you want it all, you will pay for it. Those who want just the book will only pay $20.
