Castle Ravenloft = Hero Scape?

The new board game mentioned for release next year by Bill in his Ampersand column this month sounds a lot like the Hasbro game Hero Scape.  Does anyone know if these games will be compatible?  Seems like they should be.  Why build two very similar games that revolve around collecting figures and map pieces and then make them not work together?

It may well be compatible. I believe there's also a D&D set for heroscape on the horizon as well so it's not entirely outside the bounds of possibility.

However the ampersand article gives me the impression the play experience is different to heroscape instead focusing on preset senarios like Descent and Space Hulk. Nonetheless it sounds like my kind of game and I know plenty of Ravenloft fans who would be willing to play it with me so I'm definately looking forward to this.

This game reminds me of that game that Bakura/Zorc makes Yugi and his friends play in the last story arc of the first YuGiOh manga (the last story arc before Duel Monsters becomes the focus of the series).

I think that this is an excellent idea, especially if the dungeon tiles and miniatures are compatible with regular D&D games (which I can't see why they wouldn't be).

For a new DM (which I am hoping to be), this is great; not only are there options for fewer players, the miniatures themselves can act as a one-stop shopping source for undead-themed adventures. These board games could provide an alternative to buying monsters from boosters; with the boosters, you never know what the smaller monsters will be.

In addition, this could theoretically allow Wizards of the Coast to revisit smaller, less-developed sets without the need for a campaign guide and players' guide.

That you know this makes me a sad panda, Marandahir.

Sad just that I know this, or sad that we BOTH know this?
