In the tradition of the old SSI games - Champions of Krynn, Pool of Radiance, etc... simple combat engine that can be applied to an number of adventures. Temple of Elemental Evil was a great conversion but very limited variety. Stick the the actual rules (turn based, grid movement) maybe make an adventure construction kit and let people post their own adventures? PLEASE do not try to make a real-time game out of a turn based system. Make it turn based - saveable and people could play by email by sending the saved game to the next character to act. Would this be covered by the "GSL" if some company decided to make the engine themselves? Thoughts? |

I don't know how automated the rules are in the Game Table program they may or may not be planning, but I'd love to see a turn-based game with a full campaign like Neverwinter Nights. They could integrate it with the Character Builder and Character Visualiser. I adore turn-based strategy RPGs. |

I am not sure a Final Fantasy Tactics style top down square control game will appeal to any of the fans, really, in comparision to NWN2, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age:Origins. I am not saying it couldn't happen, but it'd be a hard sell. |

Yes it'd be against the GSL since all you could do is an engine with NO rules in it. You put in any actual rules handling from the D&D game and you're using WotC's IP and violating their contract with Atari for sole video game distribution rights (even WotC can't put out a video game for 4e themselves with the contract is my understanding). I think if we want to see any 4e game we're better off asking Atari to do one. I could go for even a realtime one if its multiplayer but if its single player I'd prefer it to be 'realtime' outside of combat/encounters then go turn based with grid during encounters. I'd play it on any of the current consoles, PC, or DS/DSi. I think if it went MMOstyle it'd need to be instance based with general areas as well (but areas you won't see combat). Something akin to GuildWars but with a bit more 'shared' area. |
